I'm using a MAS Systems Super Nova that's now about 3 or 4 years old. For the past several months, my friend has been letting me borrow it so we can play some SF3: 3rd Strike at my place.
Anyway, the video was far from perfect on it when we started using it. Although I was using S-Video, you could see black bands constantly in the background, and the colors were all just a little off.
I thought this was as could as it got until I was at a friend's place with a different Super Nova playing the same game (SF3: 3rd Strike) and the game looked PERFECT, no visual artifacts whatsoever.
So, a few weeks later I'm playing at my place again, and it seems like the Super Nova is messing up. The screen started flashing, and then the image just "blanked out" completely. We all thought it was broken, but then a few seconds later, the image came back. But, it looked different! It was now perfect, just like I had seen at my friend's house on different hardware--no artifacts whatsoever. The colors had even been corrected.
Unfortunately, this only lasted for an hour or so--the next day the Super Nova was back to its old, wonky self.
I tried opening the Nova and checking connections multiple times, but everything seemed fine. Now that I know I can get better image quality than what I have been getting, I'm rather unsatisfied with it. Firstly, is there anything obvious I can do to fix my problem? The Super Nova I am borrowing now is obviously capable of displaying perfectly, since it did it briefly, and it probably did when it was new.
If I can't get the Super Nova I'm using now working like it's supposed to, I figure I'll just build a new one. Thought I'd ask here first, though! Thanks in advance.
