This game has the best character lineup I have ever seen. The presentation is top notch. The system is complex and just plain rocks .
The Neo needs a MOTW 2.
Mark of the wolves just proving once again that fatal fury is the best series ever. It steps on the Metal Slug Series and the SS series, Last Blade series is the only series in the same league as fatal fury.
KOF should be more like fatal fury.

well mushiki seems to disagree

Garou: Mark of the Wolves is My favorite Neo Fighter. and I prize my JP AES.

But as for a motw2... thats uncertain.. I do not think it will come out for the neo, AW maybe .... but i'm not sure they could capture that same magic (being snkp)

I wouldn't go as far as saying its the flat out BEST, but its certainly my favorite.

I'd have to say it's my fave NEO "VS. FIGHTING" game as well. Not only did the Neo:Geo pull off some amazing visuals, but it's play mechanics were spot on IMO, VERY FLUID and having a bit of ease in which to learn the moves, rather than committing myself to odd assed Pretzel motions with the controller, and doing back flips and giving the thumbs up sign to pull a super, super move. The characters were all varied and equally cool to look at as well as use... and Rock Howard is just teh pimp in Terry's foot steps with the bloodline of a psycho! GAWD I LOVE THIS GAME!

:buttrock:

...my only complaint was that there could've been at least six more selectable characters to play from. Other than KOF 2002 and RB Fatal Fury II: The New Comers, it's MOTW that gets the most play time on my 2-Slot, in the "VS. FIGHTING" genre anyhow. But everyone's got their particular fave and thus none of us can really say what is or is not the de facto "BEST EVAR".

I would say that MOTW is the best non-weapons based fighter ever designed. THE BEST FIGHTER? Hmm... that's certainly open to debate however. There is simply too many to choose from.

I definitely agree that MOTW is the best fighter ever and that it's the best Neo-game by far. I also prize my JPN AES version :D

I also want to add that I feel MOTW has the best all-around soundtrack (technically, fidelity, and artfully) of any fighter designed.

I agree, but to me I'd rather play SS2 anyday.

I love Last Blade and have got a thing for some KOFs and Samurai Shodown's, but everytime I put my MOTW cart in I am blown away!!! Seriously, its easy to forget how good this game is. But once I put it back in the slot I am hooked!!! And in versus mode I have hours of fun with my bro. Deffo the best fighter ever for me!!!!! Its simplicity is just perfectly balanced with its complexety.....I am talking out my ass now but maybe somebody knows what I am trying to get at. I just love not having to learn millions of moves...fun fun fun...and its beautifully presented too!! Overall the best fighter on the best system ever!!!!

most people here already mentioned most of MOTW's major good points, so I'll put in one of my favorite minor bonuses...

Satoshi Hashimoto's voicework for Terry in this game sounds like the best stuff he's done since his FF2 stuff...

No, No... You I don't thing you read right. He said BEST fighter on the neo, not most over rated fighter on the neo. I don't know about best, but MOTW is definately top 2, if not the best.

Electing the best neo fighting is as subjective as electing the best car in the world. It's just a matter a taste and gameplay feeling. For me, MOTW is certainly a masterpiece. I don't even want to compare it to something else. It's just like a kind of gift from SNK to all the garou dendestu fans. When I got SvC, I thought that it would make me change my mind about garou but no, my opinion is still the same. If I had to take some games (whatever the support) with me on an island, I would take Garou.

That's right, best fighter, King of Fighters 98, and not SNK's most terrible failure on trying to copy the Street Fighter 3 series.

And yes, that is what Mark of the Wolves is.

Mark of the woves is much better than KOF 98. It may not have as many characters, moves, win poses, or animations, but is presented about 100 times better it flows about 50 times better, and the character lineup is about 300 times better.
B Jenet =sexiest fighter ever
and Terry is Mark of the Wolves is an absolute Fucking PIMP.
KIM's sons are also better than him.
Gato's stage=GODlike
Kushnood Butt=BEST name ever and he should have been in SNK vs. Capcom, so that he could kick the shit out of Ken,Ryu, and pink Dan.
Glad to see Gato and Freeman in KOF2003. They should have just put the whole Garou lineup in the game.
If the next MOTW is on Atomiswave then the story better be way longer and way better with tons of clips of storyline and vids.

Before i read anyones else replies, i will say a big NO

It is too easy for starters and the characters are smaller than usuall and it is over within 15 minutes, whilst games like fatal fury 2 albeit a bit dated is more fun in my opinion and last blade 2 as well.

But samurai shodown 2 beats it hands down,
better fighters.
better graphics although not as fluid
better gameplay.
better endings.
better secrets.
better music apart from the robert miles track
better back drops
better cut scenes
better background effects

need i say more :)

thats just my view though as im sure others might say the same about MOTW

Tizoc, Gato and Terry are in 2k3, when in the hell did Freeman make it in the line up?

MOTW is my favorite Neo fighter, but Samurai Shodown 2 is the best Neo fighter.

MOTW is one bad ass game for competitive play.

Funny thing though, I play kof 2001 the most as far as gameplay is concerned.

I would have to say FFS is the best neo fighter. Its aged beautifully and it just plays like a dream.
Asking a person about the best neo fighter is a very hard question. So many games are good for different reasons.

MOTW may have a great presentation, great graphics, 2nd best animation on the machine for a fighter, and a wonderful wonderful cast, but it's not the best. It's not too deep, as most characters' specials are 2xQCF and a button? Not very original. Plus, there's other things that it could have but doesn't. Still a GREAT game, but I think the following are better:

SS2
KOF98
FFS

But, with that said, MOTW is a great fighter indeed.
