Custom Roms?

I've just bought a new MVS cart and I ran the Unibios rom check on it.

It came back with 'custom' as the reference on each rom bank rather than the usual code.

Does this mean it's a boot?

The boards look legit (no eproms, wiring SNK branded chips etc)

The game plays fine with no problems.


Any ideas?

Same thing happened to mine, but the first one was CRC okay, the rest were CUSTOM.

Mine is in a blue case....

weird... I have a ton of kof 99, if I ever get a unibios I'll have to check them and see what it says.

yeah, the same as mine, it's also in a transluscent blue case.

I assume it's legit then and the unibios doesn't recognise the roms?

What is the rom check feature for on the unibios anyway? I assume it's useful for detecting chip failures?

I thought it was for detecting boots.

Oh well, I really haven't had time to play with it much since I'm at work a lot lately and the Plexiglass for the case I'm building isn't here yet. ;)

If you get the custom mesage you can be sure your game is genuine. Its simply because there is no normal banking system in thee games.

oh really?

cool deal.

So does the CRC check detect boots, or is it just for checking to see if the roms contain all the information? (ie doesn't care if it's a boot or not, at least as long as its a good copy)

It dosent detect boots but some crcs are known to be from bootleg carts. There is no way to be 100% sure if a game is a boot or not without actually opening the cart and having a look.
