Okay I want to get a memory card for my new cab, but I dont know how much they are worth/cost.

Any ideas on the average going rates/prices of a memory card?

Also are the AES memory cards compatible with the MVS and vice versa?

TIA for any and all feedback! :D

As far as I know, there is only one type of memory card, and it's compatible with both AES and MVS.

I, too, would like to know the going price for these cards as well.

Average price these days is $20 and up, depending on completeness, style and condition.

There is a seller here by the name of nintendospy who currently has one for sale for $18.00.

The important thing to keep in mind whenever you buy a memory card is to ensure that it works. Have the seller TEST it first. These cards use lithium batteries which eventually die out.

Man, having these cards for 20 bucks is hardly findable. I bought mine complete in box for 43$ and the average price for a loose one is more around 30-35$.

It's rare to find them for $20, but I've seen several at that price point and even listed a seller who has one for that price.

I still think the whole lithium-battery-will-die argument is bollocks. While theoretically possible, nobody has ever reported that happening. Even those of us who have decade+ old cards still use them with joy and glee.

I actually have a card on my site if anyone's interested, but besides that I would merely underline that you really shouldn't worry about the card giving up the ghost.

I know a guy who had one die *shrug*.

I thought the all memory card's where compatable with both AES and MVS, the point being that you could take your Memory card to the arcade and continue etc
If not is this one in the pic compatable with a MVS 2-slot?

Right. Originally the idea was that the memory card could be purchased on its own so that (with Neo's being rental-only) you could continue your game from home at the local arcade after returning the system to the video store.

@ c.t.h: first time I have ever heard of that, and one card report in all these years still doesn't suggest much to fear. But still interesting.

All memory cards are compatable in both ways...mvs and aes. The goiing rate or should i say a good price for an unboxed one is about 20-$25...I have spent $70 on a mint boxed complete one from kenny boy and nothing against kenny boy but it was not worth it...They do not save scores, only your position in the game...I think an arcade game such as the aes neo games or even mvs is meant to be played starting from the beginning each time and seeing if yopu can beat it in the alotted amoiunt of men. The only purpose of the memory card is so if you die you can save your spot and start back again w/ a new set of tries to beat it...I would not even buy one personally unless your a collector...

On average i see them sell go for $30 to $40 on ebay. These cards are suppose to have a 5 year battery, so i'd try to buy one thats new and unused to extend battery life/get the full life of out of the battery. I have 2 of these cards: the 1st died after about 6 years and the second is still going after 4 years...so i think its just a matter of how much one uses it.

We had a discussion about this a while ago and apparently the only game for which your statement holds false is OverTop, where one's best times are saved in fact. Why it never extended beyond that is quite the mystery. But then for those with a cabinet loss of high scores is a non-issue.

About the cards going dead, I'd still like to hear more cases of this. Just to see how many people can come out and say it. My main one has been going since 1990 with lots of activity (it was even a former rental) and none of my other cards ever died either, though one did magically unformat itself, killing all my saves.

cool

Thanks for all the replys and information folks, I thought that was how the memory cards worked but I saw some for sale and they were listed as "NeoGeo AES memory card", so that made me wonder.

I also didnt have any idea about a battery inside of them, so I deffinatly appreciate that little tidbit of Neo lore. :)

Anything else I should know before I go back to my local funcoland?
