I've found out after buying 2 things from ebay now that don't work, and this may be a given for those with less faith in humanity than I...

"untested" items on ebay, means they are BROKEN PIECES OF SHIT THAT WILL NEVER WORK!

Sorry, just had to vent somewhere.
I bought a CPS2 game and a PCB, both look extremely clean in the pictures, the PCB was incredibly untouched looking....but yeah, I spent a lot of money to make my garbage bags heavier for the garbage men. Good times...good times....

well... if it says untested... it is a gamble!

sometimes things are geniuely untested, but do work.....

some seller just can't be bother testing them

i do that sometimes, things like computer hardware.... just too much trouble to test them :smirk:

you can always sell it again on ebay as not working

oh yeah, I understand that. It is a gamble, and its the IDEA of someone not bothering that made me venture into that territory in the first place. But burned twice...yikes, I'm just not the gambling type. Like I said, just wanted to vent to people that knew what the hell I was venting about, hehehe.

"Yeah, hi..Aunt Sandra? Yeah, you're never gonna believe this. I bought an X-Men COTA CPS2 "b" board off ebay, it was untested but I thought I'd get it anyway...and the thing doesn't work!!! Can you beleive it?"

I also say you should just sell it on eBay again as not working.

You sure it didn't just commit suicide? Send it to Razoola and have him revive it. I think he does that.

I'd do what Omega says. There's no point in just throwing it out if there's a chance that it can be fixed.

Some things can be more difficult to test than others.

Non jamma boards can be difficult for a person who is selling say 30 boards. He or she would have to rig up each board and isn't worth it to many.

ONE GOOD THING TO LOOK FOR...

If a seller is selling a bunch of stuff and is selling some jamma boards as working and some as "Untested" then you best bet it is non working. Any seller knows he/she can tripple his or her money by testing it.

yeah, kind of have to take it with a grain of salt. I just know that I personally will not bid on untested items anymore...just to be on the safe side. I will see about salvaging the CPS2 board, might be a battery issue. The other one i got was a JAMMA pcb [guardians of the hood], it starts up and goes into the demo...but its black and white...no sound...and no response from the controls [except for the joysticks...no buttons or credits]. I doubt there is anything I can do with that one...if anyone knows LEMME' KNOW.

I second the "send your cps2 stuff to Razoola". He perma-fixed my Powered Gear and is THE MAN when it comes to cps2 stuff.

Definitely better then scrapping your board, unless it was less then $40 total...or so..

oh.....and unless it says "WORKING" don't buy it!

The only way I'd buy an "untested" game is if it sells for such a rediculously low price that if there's the slightest chance of it being fixed, it may be worth a gamble...otherwise, don't fall for the untested route ;)

Hrmm it sure can be a gamble, but your odds are greatly reduced if, like norton mentioned, you check their other auctions for supposedly tested working gear too. You could maybe check their feedback to see if they've recently bought the same game they are now selling as 'untested' as it's sure fire dead as a door nail in that case. I've bought quite a lot of boards 'untested' and more often than not have come out in front. Hehe I bought an untested 'TMNT' PCB, 'SFII WW' CPS board and an 'untested, unknown sega PCB' (recognised it as a STV motherboard!) All three turned up in working condition and the SFII was so clean it looked like new old stock or something. All were snapped up for rock bottom prices and TMNT was only $14!!! Best money I ever spent, a spot of 4P Tutles loving is always in order when the boys come round!!!:buttrock:

Yeah, I try to stay away from those auctions that claim item is untested or better yet "Item worked last time I tested a while back." That's a big sign to me. If its an item that I'm really curious about I'll email the seller and ask if he/she is really that lazy as to not test something that they've spent precious time advertising. Anyway, sorry about your experience. Better luck next time.
