Good God, I nearly fainted when I saw this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3006084472&category=187

A AES with 2 good but non valueable games going for £250 (not inc P&P), I paid £149 for mine (console only mind but came with postage) a week ago and even then I though that was alot more than the american value for it.

What is up with UK gamers? Have they all gone mad because I could quiet happly buy American stuff, say a bare AES with leads for $160 and then sell it for £160.

Yes it would appear that some UK gamers are being extremly stupid and not doing their maths.

"Jees, looka AES for $160 pa!"

"Pah, I just got mine a digit less at the bargin price of £159"

I know UK prices for everything these days is usally more, but let me ask how many USA gamers are willing to pay $400+ for a AES with 2 games that can be had for $35 each, hmm?

All I can say is anyone selling a AES or games on ebay would be wise to allow shiping to the UK at this rate :p

£300?!!?!? Bloody feck

I was just thinking that telegames are selling Neo Geo's with 2 games for £195, Some smart arse is problery is buying these and making £60+ a time threw eBay.

I think the article in Edge is to blame for the sudden OTT prices that have been on Ebay UK.

I'm from Edinburgh and have already bought a Old Style Controller from Black Spy for £15, (I really don't wanna know how much they go for on Ebay UK), by the way that shop G-Force used to be in Edinburgh but moved to Glawgow due to lack of intrest, with prices like that I'm not suprised :D

Everything in the UK is overpriced. I have no idea how it got that way, but you guys are always getting screwed on the consumer side of things.

Almost anywhere you go to buy games it seems that they merely change the monetary symbol from $ to £...

Spot on thats why even with shipping charges its always better to get stuff abroad , Germany is a good place to get tv's and alike cheaper plus completely compatible with Uk huzzah (although German game prices are INSANE)

In fact Im thinking of emmigarting what country do suggest , my fiance say's she never wants to live in Japan again though :)

I was lucky and got my AES buy it now off Ebay pratictally minutes within it going online, just my luck really as they don't tend to go for so "low" usually on ebay Uk.

As for the $=£ thing that is really bloody annoying, I remmber paying £199 for my Dreamcast while US buyers where complaining of the $199 price tag :(

Fuck this tax ridden land envy

G-force hasnt really stocked any AES stuff for years

they have had some neo cd games in recent years though

a store in the decourcy arcade just off the great western road (c&a games) can normally get some common carts if you ask - but his prices are very stoopid

when i was home i went into G-force to swop some Xbox games and i asked about neo stuff, got talking to the guy for like about an hour and i told him that i have stuff, he seemed to think i was taking the piss

so went in a week later to get a controller and i took in Slug X, Breakers + Waku 7

never seen a guys face light up so fast - he was like a kid with a bag of lollies :D

Yep, and the rates just get worse and worse. I think a boycott of over priced UK retailers is the best option. I remember when I got my new English Gowcaizer at Telegames it was like three hundred US. Now I dare to even look at these prices.

Things have gotten to such a ugly level that even being involved is becoming nausiating.
I think most UK gamers would be better off getting there stuff from JP or the US. I mean geez, the shipping from JP to there would be cheaper then the regular price of some of those games.

Although there is some disparity at times with neo geo hardware on ebay UK, generally I think the prices are quite reasonable. Once you start bolting on import tax and shipping, heavy items like boxed aes soon start looking less of a bargain from outside Europe.
In general cart prices are coming down in the private sector, retailers like Raven and Telegames just need to be ignored - they're always going to be dear.

I'm sorry but I find your analysis as a broad sweeping statement rather unfounded and incorrect. There are still a lot of people who don't like buying from abroad, and seeing the 'hidden'costs and risks involved, you can't really blame them at times. You can put or shut up; or shop abroad. Generally I think UK buyers have never had it so good in the private sector.

Oh, I agree there is a disparity in hardware prices, but lets have a look at a generic example.

Average condition AES with one joystick, fully boxed with AV leads, SNK psu and instruction manual - $200 (£127)

EMS shipping - $40 (based on average quote) (£25)

VAT @ 17.5% - £26.60
Parcel Force bullshit handling fee - £13

Scart lead (very few import systems come with them) - £15

Step down (assuming you don't have one) - £20 (av. price)

TOTAL - £226.60

Really £200 for a boxed AES within the UK in good condition or better isn't really that bad... I wouldn't pay much more than that unless it was a mint high serial AES. For unboxed systems I wouldn't pay more than £150 for the standard set up.

hmmmm
I've never had an import (vat) fee yet (maybe I'm just lucky!)
step down transformer £20 why not a megadrive 1 psu £2 or free
scart cable , its pretty easy to make although I did sell one(offical) on ebay for something stupid like £21
I've never had a parcel force either (i am lucky!)
I think you can proably get a good deal in the Uk if you buy privately BUT not off ebay , fleabay can sometimes be insane especially with Edge and they're £1000 ngh price ideas wink

also damn my crappy keyboard and claw like hands for my constant typing errors :p

agreed with everything Tarma mentioned

but shipping at 40usd is a very conservative amount, my cdz was 66usd and that is lighter

i think Japanese seller charge around the 80-90usd mark for shipping to europe via ems

95 percent of my collection(s) have been bought outside the uk and i have been very lucky - only been charged duty once and i was charged £39 on a package worth £100 and that price includes ems shipping

fecking government tax and that little fe they take for themselves - normally £10 i think

btw frazermozz - if you have bought from outside the uk (and it seems you have) all parcels get re-prioritised and given a new trackable number by parcelforce

its happened to most of my stuff and it doesnt come in a parcelforce wagon - normally just delivered by the postie - who always gets a bottle of Whiskey at Christmas, since i cant help but buy crap all the time :o :o :o
