MVS Trouble Getting Worse.......................

I Had posted before that I just got a Neo Geo MVS 2-slot, it is all original, it is dated at 1993, so it is 11 years old, and well the screan was ok at 1st, then it would get worse, worse meaning.

The screan all of a sudden gets dimmer, and it flickers between normal and bright, the screan also JUMPS, like it is trying to stay centered but then bounces out of place, but then recenters. The screan just mostly flickers between dim and bright. It was perfect the 1st day, then it got gradually worse.

Does this problem sound liek a power supply problem? Someone else had posted that it MAY be the capasitors. The guy I got the cab from said that he did a LOT of work to the cab, and he did, just not perfect still. I want a perfect screan display.

I ALSO notice that if I want a pefect screan, it as to be dim, but if I turn up the brightness, the red bleeds slightly to get it to work, but almost un-noticable.

N-E-Ways just trying to trouble shoot. BTW the screan never just shuts off, but I think it may be from a power supply problem, shoudl I replace the power supply or the capisitors?

any and all help, thanks..

a cap kit might help that.. it's normal for the caps to dry out, resulting in what you describe.

i think i was the one who mentioned the cap kit. I wish I could tell you for sure, but I'm too new at video game troubleshooting to know for sure. Either way, replacing the capaciters on the monitor chassis must be done carefully (mostly because handling the monitor can be dangerous). Are the graphics of the game effected or is it just the picture of the monitor messing up (brightness, dimness)? Messing around with a power supply has shown me that the power can cause a game's graphics to mess up or the game to not boot at all. If your games appear to play ok and look ok, but it's just the monitor that has problems with brightness, my hunch would be that a cap kit might help. My 2 cents.

Actually, it just accured to me that a friend of mine has a 2 slot with a similar problem of the picture flickering. He thought his probably needed a cap kit too.

Good luck with it.

Yeah Ok, The graphics are fine, it just gets dim and struggles to keep brighter. I have to turn the brightnes up and the Color bleeds, and then it gets way bright and un watchable and then it falls on its face. The graphics/sound is perfect.

Ok, so where do I get a cap Kit, much MORE I need someone who can help me install it, I HAVE NO CLUE, anyone can help pleaze???

Well, first you need to ID what monitor you have. If you look at the chassis you should see the manufacturer's name and serial number (example: Wells Garnder K7000). Once you do that, there are various places you can get cap kits from. One is from www.therealbobroberts.com

Good luck with it. It'd be good to look around and find somebody who knows how to do a cap kit. As I've said a millions times, you have to be careful when working with monitors even when the game is off.

I was quoted $50 for a recap from a good guy. That works out to $15 in parts and the rest is labor. BUT this guy is VERY good and does good work and I am 99% sure he can do a better job then me, so I will bring it to him.

+ He is close

Sounds good to me. I can't solder worth crap yet, so I haven't done a cap kit. I do need to do one this summer for my Berzerk machine though. I have discharged a monitor, which is the scary part of working with monitors.

Good luck and hope your neo is looking better soon.

SO I am set, He has a NAM1975 so I pick it up.

I just found out my MVS's origin, it was a Samuria Showdown 1 2 slot kit, with Fatal Fury 2 in it as well, all origianl, and all the numbers seem to match.
