Can anyone estimate how much it's gonna run me to build my own Supergun/Jamma test rig? I was gonna go AES, but I liked my analogy that a Neo Geo fan building his/her own supergun is the equivalent to a Jedi building his own lightsabre, the final step in becoming a Jedi Knight. Any output would be appreciated. Thanks.

First of all. LOL. I'm putting that in my sig, great analogy.

Check this site: http://dasfool.aroo.tv/

There is a section on costs and its pretty darned accurate. The most expensive parts are going to the RGB encoder, power supply, in some cases the JAMMA harness (if you get a quality one from bob roberts), and the enclosure.

That is true, but i think putting a supergun inside something like above is kind of tacky. I mean its really just a novelty. I bought an aluminum enclosure that ran me near $40, but i was going for a more professional look.

Still i do like to see people cram superguns into random objects. Be creative!

for me, the Jrok was the most expensive part ($80).

next, was the jamma harness; pre-wired $30 (I think)

then a power supply; you can use a computer ps, I went and bought an arcade ps for about $30.

I used a Line level converter for hooking up sound through RCA jacks to my stereo, I got it at a local electronic store $15.

and of coarse the joysticks. I modified 2 Saturn pads, they cost me $5 for the pair.

odds and ends: wire, connectors, etc. etc. <- maybe $10 (I had a bunch of stuff laying around the house)

and finally (I think), the enclosure you want to put it all in. I used a horizontal computer case, painted it up all pretty. It looked alright, but my next supergun will look much better!

Alright, thanks for the info guys. I wanna try and go for at least a decent looking setup, I dont just want a jumble of wires hooked up to a 1-slot sprawled out all over my apartment floor and stuff *cough* crappy old Nintendo. I'm really intersted in testing myself in building this, but I gotta sell some of my systems. Like my Gamecube and all my games, as well as my guitar and amp. Hopefully I'll get my tax returns back and I can get to work on it sooner. I'll keep you guys updated on my Neo Jedi training.

I'm gonna have to get a 1-slot PCB kit too, right?

with this set up, you could run pretty much any JAMMA game board (that includes any of the MVS boards).

The only thing you would need to 'add' would be more hookups for more buttons i.e. Street fighter, it has an additional harness hook up for the extra buttons.

I was going to build a supergun, but I think I'm going to Uberia route. Good luck with yours though. May the Force be with you.

What? $260-$275 I think it was?

Under $300 if you want a good looking unit.
