Sorry for such a n00bish question but I'm getting a jap neo and the one I had already was a euro so it ran fine without any trasnformers or whatever. Just wondering what anyone would reccomend to get my jap neo running safely on the uk mains without frying the machine :)

You will need a step-down transformer. The Jap Neo runs on 100 volts.

I picked that much up lol :D

I was wondering if there is any truth in being able to use a megadrive one powerpack into the jap neo and running it safely?

I depends on which version of the Japanese console it is, its true later models can run on a UK megadrive psu (same goes forPCE & SFC), you will just have to check the voltage on the machine when you get it.

The NeoStore usually has AES power supplies in stock.
