I need to buy a new monitor for one of my cabs.
My 2-slot red cab needs a monitor. The older monitor was
fixed, but the picture is not what I expected.

What do I need to have in mind when buying a monitor?
I will probably go with a 24" Wells Gardner, + I need to
makesure everything will be ok with the voltage if anyone
can direct me to a link for a purchase? or any other suggestions
would be appreciated.

I swapped the monitor in my dedicated 2 slot MVS with one of these:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3278725620&category=13716

These guys take used, working TV picture tubes and match them up with an arcade compatible new chassis. The price is about half of what you'll spend for an entirely new monitor. You do need to use the existing metal frame from your cabinet, but that take 15 minutes to swap out. Luckily I live near these guys and was able to pick up locally and bypass shipping
:multi_co:

The pic from the monitor is great, I've been Metal Sluggin' it ever since;)

That is a great price!

Bear with me though- I'm a dumbass. If they take are using a regular tv screen in that thing, then is it still displaying true rgb?
If so, is it hard to do what they do to make a regular TV take rgb?

The chassis they use makes it a standard resolution arcade monitor, so I assume it's rgb. Certainly looks good to me. :p

There's a link from the auction to their website that also describes how to convert a tv tube for use as an arcade monitor using their chassis.

I think the problem with US tvs is that they aren't designed to output rgb without cracking them open and doing serious hacking

Every CRT is based on RGB. It's the transmission signal that matters. Arcade stuff sends pure RGB, while TV's usually accept only NTSC or PAL. Internally it is decoded to RGB though. I've done a few TV tube swaps for old games with horrible burn in...it's very simple really.

Go to either www.wellsgardner.com or www.happcontrols.com and look for a 25" standard resolution monitor.

A few good WG modesl are K7000, K7200, and K7400.

And what's wrong with your current picture?

At first it had this green horizontal line right in the middle of
the screen. It was fixed by some local tv guy, but the image
comes up a little bit green now. He told me we'd have to
change the chasis, or buy a new monitor, and I just want
a new monitor now, so...

Would any of the 25" monitors (K700+ do?)
I have a 2-slot red cab, with all original parts.
Would the power input be ok?

A Wells Gardner K7400 would work well in a 2 slot. I have a Wells Gardner K7200 19" monitor running in a cabinet of mine and I have been very pleased with it. Great picture! :D A monitor takes 110 AC so you power imput does not need to be changed. Also the K7400 does not need an isolation transformer, but if you use one it wont hurt it at all. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. All I needed to know. Just need to order it
and have the same guy come over and install it.

One thing I forgot to include. You might want to check out the monitor mounting system of your cabinet and make sure that the holes of the K7400 will line up so your new monitor will be safe and sound. Well s Gardner has detailed information on their site about their monitors.

I asked my brother in law about where he gets the monitors he puts in the Arcade machines he restores..
He said he gets a great deal from,,

ArcadeShop.com

I did a search and found out that leads to this place..

You should be able to fix the green by adjusting the bias and drive controls. The chassis might need a cap kit too. Only in cases where the CRT itself is bad do you need to replace the monitor, and even then you only need to replace the CRT.
