I'll be hosting a Birthday Party for my wife, Claire, and my buddy, J.C., this Saturday, March 6th at our home in Round Rock (North Austin.) People can show up anytime after 8p.m. If you need directions to my house, email me at mrkatsu@hotmail.com .
The Agenda? Well, Claire's a poker player, and J.C.'s a video game player, and they're both keen on the alcohol. So, I imagine we'll have a game of poker going on all night as well as LOTS of video games and drinking.
On the Video Game Side:
- Living Room. I have a 61" regular aspect ratio HDTV with Xbox, Gamecube, PS2, and Dreamcast consoles ready to go. This TV usually hosts the party games unless we're linking with another room (explained later.) The popular games are Mario Party, Pac-Man Vs. (really fun!), Halo, Mario Kart, Kung Fu Chaos and Bomberman. All the controllers are wireless, so it's tangle-free fun! 1v1 fighting games tend to break out in the wee hours of the morning too.
- Arcade Games. I have 4 arcade cabinets: a 4-slot dedicated Neo Geo MVS (with such games as Samurai Showdown 1-4, King of Fighters 97-98, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Magical Drop III, etc.), a dedicated Killer Instinct cabinet, a Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting cabinet, and a CPS2/Jamma Japanese Capcom fighting game cabinet that currently has SNK Vs Capcom: Chaos installed. All will be set to free play.
- Retro Gaming. I just completed a Retro Gaming Room. It's got a Sega Saturn, Neo Geo CDZ, Sega Genesis w/Sega CD and 32x, classic 8-bit NES, Dreamcast, PlayStation 1, Super Nintendo, Nintendo64, Atari Jaguar, and an Xbox (yeah, i know it's not retro, but it's good for Halo linking with the xbox downstairs.) So if you're feeling like playing some NES Tecmo Bowl, Madden for the Genesis, or Mortal Kombat, visit the Retro Room.
- Console Linking. We sometimes have Mario Party and/or Halo console link ups. We set up a Video Projector in the guest bedroom and project about a 5 foot screen onto the wall and hook up a 2nd Gamecube with Mario Kart and a LAN adapter or a 2nd xbox to it and play Halo vs the 61" TV people downstairs. This will probably happen, but I have to check on the projector status.
- Misc Stuff. I have Karaoke Revolution and Dance Dance Revolution available for those so inclined to show off their vocal and/or dancing talents.
On the Poker Side:
- Texas Hold 'Em is the name of the game. If you haven't played it before, but you know 'normal' poker, it's REALLY easy to learn, and a lot more fun to play.
- There will be a max chip buy-in that will be decided just before the game starts. (Prolly $5 or $10.) But, you can buy-in as many times as you'd like if you lose your your money. Really, all you need is $5 to get into the game. It's really fun too!
- We have over $130 of high quality chips available and two very nice decks of cards. (Thanks to my friend, Sean.) So you don't need to bring anything but some cash/change if you wanna play.
- You have to give 45 min notice before you cash out any winnings. This is so people don't win a big hand and try to cash out! (This is the "Brian" rule.
)
- We just got a new Poker Table Top! It works REALLY well for up to 8 people at a time. ( http://home.earthlink.net/~mrkatsu/pokertable/PokerTableTop.jpg )
We're expecting around 30 people or so for the party. It's a great time had by all. If you love video games, poker or alchohol, this is the place to be this Saturday!
