I'm still waiting for my Neo CD console to arrive, so I thought it would be good to ask a few questions about the memory back-up.
I've read that it's wise to switch on the console at least once a month. Otherwise, all my save games may be deleted.

I know that in order for the Xbox to keep the clock in check, I must keep the machine's powerplug plugged in.
Will this also work on the Neo CD ?

BTW, I'll be switching on my Neo CD far more than once a month, but one can always ask eh ?

Nah it will be fine, mines been left dormant for many a month and the saves have always remained.

Ah that's good to hear. Thanx dude.
Because it'll be a bummer if I go on holiday for a few weeks only to find that all my progress in say... Samurai Spirits RPG went out of the window.

(Yeah I know it's only available in Japanese, but I think of it as a collector's item, so I'm gonna get it anyway.)

I can also vouch for the NEO CD's ability to retain saved games for several months without any probs so far...I think it can remember thigns better than I can at this point...

I do not see why it wouldn't be o.k. Either way, if worse came to worse all you would lose is your high scores and gameplay positions.

Now my PS1 and PS2 memory cards is where I really sweat it!, going through an entire RPG and then having the memory erase is h----------e------------l--------l!!!!

The internal backup battery won't last forever, folks, over time the capacity it can hold will decrease which results in a premature power loss, and that almost always means that your game saves will be gone afterwards.

That's why the NGCD manual recommends to switch it on at least once every two weeks, just to make sure.

Otherwise I agree with Syxx573, not using your CD unit for more than two weeks is a no-no anyway so just do what the doctor says and take your NGCD twice a week (or a day if you're one of the hopeless cases)! :)

100% true.
On a side note, you may or may not be interested to hear that the TurboGrafx/PCEngine CDROM manual states exactly the same thing--to turn on the system at least once a month to keep the save memory "fresh".

I see, so I take it that the afore-mentioned trick of keeping the PSU plugged in won't work.
Still, if it's once every two weeks, then I'm sure it wouldn't be bad if I skip it over like once a year when I'm on holiday right ?
-At least, that's what I think-

Ahh, My Neo CD still ain't here, and already I'm thinking about tme memory back-up and stuff. :oh_no:
