Which PCB to play both JAMMA and MVS?

Yep another NOOB question. I'm slowly learning.

I'm looking at getting a 2 slot or 4 slot PCB and I realise these are MVS, so does that mean JAMMA carts won't work on them?

Are there any PCBs that play both JAMMA carts and MVS carts?

If so, which one?

And if not, what do I do? Can this be easily worked around?

By the way, I'm customizing my own cab because it's too hard to find one in Australia. So I need to make sure I purchase all the correct hardware.

Thanks guys, any help is appreciated.

There are no JAMMA carts. JAMMA games are their own PCB entirely.

To switch them you just have to move the JAMMA cable from game to game. With MVS you connect the JAMMA cable to the MVS PCB and put in whatever cart you want.

As far as I know there is no such thing as a Jamma 'Cart'....

MVS games come in carts that plug into the MVS slot units (which are Jamma compatible).

Other arcade PCBs (like SVC Chaos) are Jamma compatible (ie you can use a Jamma harness to plug it in). These systems do not need a motherboard because it is built in (no carts, or slots)
It is a dedicated game board.

Essentially you need to understand that "Jamma" is a term that actually refers to the style of connector the system uses to connect to the rest of the system (the controllers, monitor and power supply).

Hope that answers some of your questions.

BTW if there is something called a Jamma "Cart" by all means correct and enlighten me on the matter.

If you want to get a 2 slot or 4 slot Neo Geo PCB, that will make it a little more difficult to have other JAMMA PCB's running in the same cabinet. 2, 4, and 6 slot PCB's use a modified JAMMA pinout (for selecting between the different Neo carts and for stereo sound). Someone could probably make you an adaptor for that. I use a newer model 1 slot PCB that is straight JAMMA (no modified wiring for selecting games and the PCB uses JAMMA's normal MONO sound output) and you may want to consider that if you don't want to hastle with this. There are many more people on here that know more about the Neo Geo than I do. I do have a basic knowledge of wiring up a JAMMMA cabinet.

Ok, a couple more questions from the Noob here :D.

I'm buying this cabinet: http://www.highway.net.au/parts/machine/1940.html

And I'm planning on installing it with a 4-Slot motherboard. Preferably this one: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...2&category=3945&sspagename=STRK:MEBWA:IT&rd=1

Now I'm not sure what the product details of this motherboard are, but want I want to know is, will it install into the above cabinet? And is there anything else I need in order for the two to work together, and will it work with this game that I got on ebay which is listed as MVS...

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...1&category=1247&sspagename=STRK:MEBWN:IT&rd=1

If this game won't work with the above cabinet and motherboard, what do I need to do in order for it to work?

Thanks again people! :glee:

Should be pretty much plug and play.,

Since you are getting a neo cabinet (Hopefully it will already have the Jamma Harness in it) all you have to do is connect the jamma harness to the mobo and it should fire right up. Assuming everything you bought is in working order.

Just a bit of advice, if i were you i'd look around a little bit. Caroles Collectibles is a known scammer and not guaranteed to ship you what you win. Try to win an auction from another seller if possible just for that reason. Everyone on the forums knows about his dishonesty and refuses to buy from him. Your cabinet loox coo though...you might also look for a 4slot marquee to hold your mini marquees. Good Luck :buttrock:

I have to totally agree with this one. I don't know how many people he's ripped off, but just looking around the forum you'll find a lot about this guy. He's selling a lot of the Neo stuff on ebay and it's mostly bootleg. It's your call obviously, but I'd say it's better to not support him period even when the items may be legit. Good luck.

Great! Thanks again for the feedback guys. I'll stay away from Carole's Collectibles.

Where would I get hold of a 4-slot marquee. It'd need to be available to Australia.

Well, if you can't find one by posting here on the wanted board, you can try the newsgroup rec.games.video.arcade.marketplace or rec.games.video.arcade.collecting

I post there often and it's a good way to find arcade stuff. So, I'd try to post here in the wanted forum and if that doesn't get you any results, you can try the newsgroups. Good luck.

Thanks for the help guys. One other thing I just need clarified.. Are all MVS carts compatible with all MVS motherboards (1-slot, 2-slot, 4-slot, 6-slot). I need to know this so that I don't buy a game if it only works on say the new 1-slot motherboards or vice-versa.

I know these seem like silly questions but I just need to know for sure.

Thanks guys.

Some of the new games have problems running on the old 1 slot boards (rage of the dragons comes to mind).

For 100% compatibility you'll want to stick with a multi slot board or the newest 1 slot (mv1-c).
