How about a cheaper alternative to the XNEO-1?

Talking with 300wins, Gamefan, gemen, and Nash the other day, I got to thinking that $150 for the XNEO-1 is a bit steep. But the concept is slick, getting S-Video without having to actually mod the system.

Hmm.

Well, who would be up for a cheaper alternative? Say a homebrew S-Video encoder in a box with 8 pin DIN plug and S-Vid out?

And what would people consider a good price?

Yep, the AV out port on an AES has RGB, composite video, composite sync, +5V, ground, mono audio. Still can't figure out why they thought mono only through the AV, but stereo through the headphones was a bright idea.

how well does the x-Neo work?........ IT's basically an RGB encoder right?

Don't most encoders require the RGB signal to be at line level, not resisted at 75 ohms????

It's an encoder, but I don't know the chip that's in it. Nor if resistors are in line on it.

This should all be easy to figure out.
