as i said this is my first one. so i am not trying to be creative. i just want to see if i can do it first, and then maybe build a better one later.

thanks for any help!

here is the obligatory post about the sgrepository....

but I've found the site doesn't work half the time.

You'll have better luck with http://dasfool.aroo.tv/

I did. I'm now working on a nice case for my now very functioning supergun.

PS, if you are going to order a RGB convertor from JROK expect at least a week turn-around before your email is answered and 3~4 days before its shipped. It takes a while and its the most vital peice, so order it now so you're not sitting on a stack of useless parts like I was for 3 weeks.

Also make sure you order a 'real' Super Jamma Harness. The one I got off ebay is missing a bunch of connectors so I had to go to Happ Controls and order a Super Jamma Harness from them anyway. (yeah I know i could wire add the wires myself, but finding those edge connectors locally in germany is a pain in the arse). So if you look on ebay and it says Super Jamma Harness from Happ Controlss its not, its the regular Jamma harness from Happ Controls. Save yourself some time and just pay the $40 to Happ and get that one.

Another thing thats not mentioned much on the supergun sites is sound. I've found that getting a nice set of 6inch round car speakers can make some really nice sound. You can wire them to the harness or add the RCA audio jacks from Parts express. Car speakers can take a lot more abuse than most speakes and they're only about $30 a pair for the low end, so when you are testing Jamma bards that usually are VERY LOUD, you won't have to worry about damaging any expensive audio equipment.

Damn I should just post pictures. *sigh

That'll have to wait untill after my case is finished.

For anyone thinking of working with plexiglass, here is a side note I'd like to share with everyone. Plexiglass makes STATIC very badly. TO solve this problem, it is imperative that every peice of plexiglass (in my case the whole thing) is staticallly bonded together and grounded to the power supply.

I'm working on this by adding copper wire to every peice along the edge (less visible there and won't interfere with the aesthetics). I'm also looking into ordering some anti-static spray but I'm not sure how far these things can be trusted.

thanks for the help!

unfortunately Broken has shut down the sgreposotory for the time being. the way he was talking it may be for good.

the other site you mentioned i found it a while ago. but when i get to the step by step guide, all thast works is the sound section.

when i click on the video section it never comes up.

maybe i'm missing something.

i'll keep the speaker thing in mind.

Hey well if you need help pm me, I just went through this ordeal and did about 2 months of research..

Its actually pretty straight forward once you get the JROK and Jamma Harness.

oh and a power supply as well.
and contrary to popular theory ATX PSUs work great. just ground the little green wire from the motherboard clip, and you can control it from the switch on the back.

just connecting wires.,..

so when you started this project you were basically like me?

no experience at all, never soldered, and never even heard of half of the things listed in the parts section?

i pretty much know nothing. i know what a power supply is. what a JROK is. and what a jamma auxillery cable is. and i think i can maybe hook up a cps1 auxillery cable/harness from seeing one installed on my super nova system i use to have.

but thats all i know.

think i have a chance here?

Yup, its actually not that hard. The hardest part is getting all the parts.

(at least for me)

If you have a wiring diagram and the listed parts you actually don't need to solder at all.

A good set of wire strippers/crimpers and some connectors are about all you need to set up a basic set-up.

its when you start adding backup fuses, stereo switches, lights, buzzers, etc that things start getting complicated.

In reality all you ABSOLUTELY need to make a supergun is a JROK, a Power Supply and a Jamma Harnes (and of course a Jamma board to hook it up to)

Just make sure you plug that thing into a nice surge protector if you go the fuse-less route.

so would installing a on/off switch be hard?

that is called a DPDT switch, right?

also the speaker thing. obviesly i want to use s-video. i could care less about av cables except for sound. so could i just hook up some speakers to the thing to get sound?

i heard someone talking about using 6 inch car speakers. that sounds like something i would really like to do.

also i want to be able to use neo geo controllers and play street fighter games without having the buttons all akward. i was thinking of just using a 2 slot to play neo games for the controller port. but i think i want to get mass sticks for the street fighter games and all the other jammas.

do you think it is possible to to avoid using the neo board for 1 slot games and use a 6 button controller for both formats?

i would want my controller to be the regular street fighter set up with the neo A,B,C,D, buttons set up like

LP=C
MP=D
LK=A
MK=B

would that be possible or would 2 sets of controllers be my only option?

thanks for all your help!

Sure its possible, I did the same thing myself, really all you need to do is wire a 15 pin connector to the Jamma Harness Player controls (same one the neo uses).

The pin-out for the controller can be found here.
http://www.gamesx.com/controldata/neocont.htm

The pinout on the Jamma Harness for a Standard Jamma and a MVS system is here

http://www.hardmvs.com/manuals/Jamma2NeoGeo4SlotPinout.pdf

You'll notice that pin 2 and 10 are not used on the 15 pin connector for neo geo controllers.... so just wire buttons 5 & 6 from a kick harness to pins 2 and 10, and when you wire up you custom controlls match wires accordingly.

Now you have a Controller port that supports a Standard NeoGeo controller and a extended 6 button controller for your CPS games.

It goes up and down, I've noticed that.

It worked when I posted it. :)

It'll probably be back up in a few hours.

I would just re-post the data but I can't find the print-out.
