AES care

Hi ~ !

I just got the AES system, okay! But, It seems to be a little dirty on the outside. How should I go about cleaning off the system without ruining any components.

Also, is there a region lock-out for the US AES? (As in, can an overseas game be played in a US unmodified system?)

try whiping the shell with a moist cloth, then leave the system alone for a few hours incase some moistiour finds its way inside, to allow it to dry.

Whenever I get a new retro system, I completely disassemble it. I clean it inside and out, even the circuit board(s). However, I don't always go to such extremes especially if I know it will not look like its in excellent to near mint condition when I finish. My AES was in mint condition when I got it; so I have not had to clean it. I do have a model 1 Genesis and a rare model 1 Sega CD front loader. They both look great now after extensive cleaning. If your AES is already in good condition with very very few scratches, you'll be amazed at how it looks after a little cleaning. I use everything from rubbing alcohol to mild soap. Be sure to take great care when cleaning the gold and white letters on the logo, and also the serial number on the bottom...if you clean the bottom.

The US AES is censored.
There is no region lock.:buttrock:

I highly recommend you do NOT follow this advice unless you are an expert with electronics. I also NEVER recommend using any type of solvents on electrical equipment. Like the other individual said earlier, take a cloth and moisten it a bit until it is damp and then lightly clean the outside of the console. Wait a couple hours to make sure everything is dry and then play. Do NOT clean inside the cartridge door or inside outlets. Also, do NOT open your system without knowing what you are doing (as you will void your warranty. lmao).

Wipe the outside off with a wet paper towel, and use a can of spray air to blow off the board after you've taken the top off. Dirt PWNED.

I really don't see how completely disassembling the NGH is necessary. Just taking the top of to blow off the board should be fine.

Yes, I agree with Winter. Don't open your system unless you know what your doing. I work in IT and have years of experience working on computers and electronics. Again don't use anything to harsh to clean your system. Some harsh cleaners can cause the color of the shell to change.

Some system (Genesis, SNES, etc...) can be down right nasty on the inside. Dust buildup can cause problems.

I recieved my AES as well last week. I used a damp cloth to clean the outside and used no solvents or harsh cleaners and my neo geo looks mint.

WARNING:
If you use furniture polish this can cause plastic to crack over time, I talk from bad experience with other electricals, this may also apply to other chemicals i.e. Cleaning fluids etc.

Also using chemicals on your system may cause the logo to fade.

Make sure you rinse out you clothes and get all mass of water out before you wipe your system!!!

first off...most aes systems dont have a warranty...if they did they would be brand new and would not need a cleaning in the first place...a better bit of advice is toi take a keyboard aerosol can of air that you may blow on the chip board, it will take dust and dirt right off...if you are cleaning the outside, use orange cleaner made by 409, it will not fade anything as far as gold or white lettering...also, you dont need to be a damn electronic technincian to take off 8 screws on the bottom of a system...

Yeah, this system was a gift so there's no warrenties or anything- the guy that gave it too me had most his Neo Geo and video game collection stolen a few years back, so the system itself hasn't been used since then. I wouldn't think there would be much dust on the inside, he takes decent care of his stuff.

And... hell, no - I am not opening it. =) It's my new baby, if something happens to it on my accords, I'd never forgive myself for it. So, there. I'll have to work on cleaning it up tonight. Thanks for the advice.

Any other curious facts I should know about the AES?
