After getting the video game violence issue off my back here, I figured that I might as well get another hot button issue off my back, game ratings. You know, E, T, M, AO, and I (for immature...I made up that last one.
). Now, some people here are asking, "What possesed me to rant about this here?" Well, what got me off was a study that raises questions about the validity of T rated games. For some links, click here, here, here and here. I think that this would impact this community in particular, considering that the Harvard professors that conducted this study did use the PSOne port of KOF '99 as one of their samples, and that they did show concern about "point and shoot/kill 'em all" games. Regarding the latter, this brings up Metal Slug again; if the Xbox port of MS3 is uncensored, with the zombies vomiting blood and all, and is rated T instead of M, would this ignite controversy? I don't mean controversy like Janet Jackson's teat, just the usual complaints like the ones mentioned above.
So, am I off my rocker, or are these legitimate concerns? Discuss.
(And for the record, I did preorder MS3 for my Xbox. It should fit the bill for mindless "turn off your brain, hold down the "A" button and go right" action that's soley missing these days.)
