Okay this might be the most retarded question out there, but here goes:

I've heard that Samurai Shodown 2 AES was censored for the american gaming audience back when it was released.
They turned the glorious red blood into white (which sucks IMO).

But what about the MVS cart of the usa version? Same thing?
I'm about to get it for my cab, but started thinking...
If there's white blood, can it be somehow turned back to red?
I remember that my cab has a built-in menu option, where you can choose "Blood: On/Off". Would this help?

Thanks people :)

There is no censorship on MVS hardware, just on NGH hardware.
If you plug an MVS cart into a MVS mobo ,you will get blood and fatalities.
If you plug an MVS cart into a Phantom-1 and play it on a US console with no debug bios you will get white blood and no fatalities

I never quite understood that - why take the high road in the home system but let the blood fly in the arcades?

I'm just guessing here, but... Maybe they didn't want to bring the blood to people's livingrooms, especially for small kids to see.
The parents might not tolerate it as well as when it is "hidden" in the arcades. (they probably didn't have a clue of gory arcade stuff like mortal kombat either)

They also might have never known that there is such violence in videogames in altogether until they saw some in their own homes. Maybe SNK feared this kind of "parent's outrage", and decided to avoid the inevitable complaints and lawsuits.

Case in hand: Rockstar's GTA games.

I've always liked Galfordo's avatar. Anyways, if anything they should add more blood to home versions! In every game, even Bust a Move!

THere is an option in MVS to turn blood on and off...

Before there was Vice City, there was a game called mortal Kombat.... the outrage about that caused SNK to censor it's US releases.

Much in the same way that the grammy's used a 10 minute delay after the Janet Jackson booby on the superbowl.

IT's america, we overreact all the time....... SNK knows were a bunch of crazzies and they just figure it would be easier to censor then deal with the BS.

I have a question thats kinda along similar lines. If there is no censorship on any mvs games, why is it when I play newer neo titles like kof 2002 and svc chaos, mai's tits don't bounce like they used to in older games. Is this an option that the arcade manager turned on/off? I have an mvs cab, and I've seen blood options, but never bouncing titties options?
Thanks

uhh i think i could try to answer that...

the bouncing titties were a part of a thing that got censored over the years. which is, (without saying) a fucking outrage.

they had a quite comprehensive view on this matter in a late Retro magazine issue, which went through all the retro collectible machinery and software. Amongst these was of course NeoGeo AES, where i remember reading something along the lines of "US titles... yadda yadda yaddaa.... censored blood, the infamous bouncing titties".

Apparently they found em inappropriate, and pussied out. And since there really isn't a "bouncing boobs on/off" switch in the MVS systems, i guess they just dropped em altogether.

the bastards!

Thanks big boy .... ;). And yes, you're right - they should definitely put fatalities in Tetris too.

Ironically if you go the options on the NGH of SamSho II and change it to Jap, then go back and change it back to US, you'll get the red blood and fatalities etc.

Yes, mvs is no censhorship...at all...neither are games on the jap system...If you have a jap aes you can get a us game and play and there will be blood, its just stupid to trade off blood for jap lettering unless your bilingual...
