I have a JAP AES, and I was wondering wheter or not I should invest in a Neo Geo CD or not as well. They seem prety cool, and I was considering getting one, but I think that most of the games I'm going to get for my AES I'd probably just get on the CD. Does the NGCDZ really read at twice the speed? I know this topic has been driven into the ground by the veterans hundreds of times, but mind helping me out? Or at least giving me some advice? Thanks.

The Neo CD is defiantly worth getting. There are still some left at the NeoStore. I received my Neo CD from the NeoStore last week, and could not be happier :D. The CDZ is really not that much faster. Basically, I wanted to get the CD system for the more expensive games like Metal Slug, Viewpoint, etc... The CD games are a lot cheaper! Personally, I don't think the load times are all that bad; especially when you consider that the system was released 10 years ago.

Which games are you interested in getting?

I've just recently played a Neo CD again (CDZ), and I would definitely say that yes, it's worth it. I would choose mostly games that were lighter on loading like KOF '94 and FFS, but I played KOF '96 and in my opinion it's not nearly as bad as some would claim (again, this was on CDZ). You also have the option of playing single mode rather than team mode in KOF, which saves a lot of loading. I'd get the Top Loader, as they have a reputation as being more reliable, and the new old stock in the Neo Store come with 2 controllers. For any more detailed information, I'd try to ask Takumaji. He seems very knowledgeable about the CD systems, from the games to the technical aspects.

Yes, in the long run you can save a lot of money on games. I buy CD and AES titles. Some games on CD are really easy to get (and some sigificantly cheaper TSSCD-88 TSSAES-800+). Others, however, are not and are just as cheap on AES (Sengoku).

So yes, I think you woud save yourself a lot of frustration if you got a CD system to suppliment your collection.

if you've got the funds, having an AES and a CD is a great investment, cuz it gives you more options for the particular experience you want to get for any given NEO game...

like the arranged music better? go NEO CD.
don't want load times for a particular game? go AES.
like the Art Gallery and little extras for a given game? get the CD.

you see what I mean...you can tailor your games to give you exactly what you want...it's all about choices, do what's best for what you want...and we'll be here to help out...
