So last weekend I was at Best Buy and seen a few copies of Fifa 2004 for the GBA and I thought - nah, I'll just wait for Winning Eleven to come out on the GBA..

Somewhere along the way I got a gift card for Best Buy and decided "WTF" and go back and pick up a copy. What sacrilege I came across was enough to make any grown man cry. They had atleast (and I'm not bullshitting you) 30-40 copies of "Bey Blade", about 20 copies of Metroid ZM and Zelda each, and about 40 copies of Yugioh(sp). And a couple random titles.

Where is the variety!! Are people really buying this stuff up? I can understand Metroid and Zelda - but is the GBA turning into the N64 where game publishing is like a magazine subscription?

PS: I would have purchased J-League Winning Eleven for GBA but it looks like too much Kanji/Kana.

Generally, I think it's an ok store. However, I've found that Best Buy is notoriously bad about stocking only mainstream titles.

Try Circuit City instead. I find they tend to stock less mainstream games more. At least, thats where I bought Disgaea.

I agree with that too. Places like Circuit City and Fry's Electronics had a much wider and more diverse selection of games.

Best Buy is really hit or miss most of the time for me. I've gone in there a few times and have had exceptional help and walked out very happy.
I went in once looking for the last cd released by Les Claypool on its release day, I totally didnt expect them to have it but I asked anyway.
Much to my surprise the woman I asked walked into the back room and returned with the cd I wanted about 2 minutes later.

But other times its either they totally dont have what I want, or the people you ask are just fucking retarded.

Let's not forget that Best Buy was the sole nationwide distributor of NUON players, games and accessories back in the day. That's about as far from mainstream as you could get!

...dude, BEST BUY has always been about DVD selection for regular movies and "Mainstream Anime"... and shit for anything of a selection for Video Games. CIRCUIT CITY has the hookage for teh games, but not as great on the DVD movies.

Indeed, their anime selections, prices, and release dates are just outstanding. :buttrock:

I'm there with you. First off I'd like to say I have heard people say this about places like Game Stop where they complain that the employees don't know jack. And that pisses me off since I work at Game Stop and I know that everyone at the store I work at are hardcore Video Game and Computer freeks. So I guess this is not true as a whole but....

For the most part at Best Buy the people are jackasses.
Here are my 2 dumbest experiences.

I buy an Xbox from best buy and get the extended 1yr warrentee (because I knew of the problems with xbox of course) Anyway 2 days after I bought it the games would not load on the system I bring it back to Best Buy with my year warrentee slip. The guy at the counter says that he can't exchange it for me. So I say to him first off it is still under your warrenttee I've had it for 2 days and it already dosent work. Besides I have an extra year wrarenee that is a replacement if something goes wrong. So of course he says "Well, I guess you can go grab another one then" what the fuck good is the extened warentee if they don't honor it.

Now for the second thing.
I go to the computer department looking for a midi cord for my computer and ask a couple people in the computer section and they could not find what I was looking for. "Oh, I'm sorry we don't have that". I knew they had to have it so I though maybe since it was a part of music as well I went back to where they sell the Synthesizers <spelling sorry> and this chick that was back there broght me back to where I was talking to the computer Guru's and she showed me exactly where it was.

I had a friend who worked at a local GameStop were he was pretty much the only intellgant person there.

Two gaming store stories I have..
I was in a GameStop and some guy sugested a game to me, I told him I already had the import, which I did.
He then proceeded to tell me that the import version is not the complete game! I walked away

Another time in an EB a worker made a stereotypical comment to me based on my appearance, assuming I'd accept this as a joke.
He happened to be a black man, and I'm not racist, but for about 10 seconds on that day I was when I replyed to his comment.

I'm proud to say I havent bought a game from a major chain store in 6 years. I buy all my games either online, or at a local privately owned game store where I'm friends with the owner and employees.

I won't get anything at best buy unless I see something on sale for a good price in their ad.

Of course Best Buy is all about mainstream, its pretty well known.

With my recent battle of laptop PC shopping, I noticed that of course Best Buy only carries the mainstream laptops, ie HP, Compaq, Sony, Toshiba, and E-Machines. For the record, I bought an IBM Thinkpad R40; just got it last nite from IBM certified used direct.

I only buy software at a few places... Forums, Ebay, EB, and Gamestop.

Yea, I've noticed ever since more systems have been out (Ie Xbox and GC), their selection of games has been thin compared to the DC days.

I remember back when the DC was big, BB took bigger risks with niche games - they even stocked Arc the Lad Collection for PSX and Puyo Pop for GBA. Not anymore. Now all you see is mainline stuff. Still, you do find a decent game now and then, and budget titles like Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu.

If you want the niche games, you have to go to EB, Gamestop, Online, or the indie stores.
