Until I went to a party about a week ago, I thought "look at those stupid idiots...." when I saw people in arcades on these dumb DDR games. Then, the guy at the party had people playing DDRMax2 on PS2. I'll be goddamned if it didn't look fun as all hell. I didn't play it saying "if this was a fighting game, I'd be all about it", but dancing? So, we are having a house warming party, and my g/f and I thought it would be fun to have this if people wanted to play. I've only played for about 3 hours, but the game is FUN as hell!!

Anyone else man enough to admit they like this game? Don't knock it 'till you try it.

I haven't played it yet - mostly since there isn't a decent arcade within 25 miles of my place. But I'll try it one day, and I'm sure I'll enjoy, despite the fact that I'll probably look like teh gay.

I like most (if not all) BEMANI games, in other words, I have been playing Dance Dance Revolution for years.

Spike, you've just taken your first step into a larger world. :)

Congratulations on taking the plundge, it's hard for a lot of people to get started (though I though the idea was cool the first time I heard about it)

DDR takes a lot of time to learn though... eventually if you really get into it you'll want to play at the arcade more or get a metal pad or something.

Stick with it because it's an awesome game. :buttrock:

You might even become interested in other bemani games out there, though we don't have much of a selection in IL there are home versions. :)

There are few places towards Chicago with DDR machines. Even an old guitar freaks if it's still there. I've been "into" the Bemani stuff for a while but I kinda grew tired of DDR and Guitar Freaks controls were frustrating. I played Drumania and lost every time so I skipped on that one long ago. Still haven't had the chance to play any of the newer Bemani stuffs though.

That's why you need to sign www.bringmorebemani.com and get more bemani around here.

Drummania is hard but if you turn on autobass it's easier and more fun imo because you can concentrate more on the drumming. I go fucking crazy when I play that game. :)

Hard? It is really simple, you just need to practice.

I bought a cheap dance mat for PSX and I've been playing some of the games for PSX and PS2. Sometimes I would use the regular controller, though. I like it quite a lot.
I only played it once at the arcade, and I prefer to play at home, specially with friends is very funny. The other day I went to another arcade here in Barcelona, and there were like 10 Japanese youngsters around it, playing.

Hehe, well I'd be all over percussion freaks/drummania but the closest machine is in a movie theater and you gotta pay to get in. The second closest machine is over an hour away and I play there very rarely.

I love DDR! What I don't understand is why people think they need to tromp around like angry trolls when they're playing...no one's got any smoothness or rhythm anymore! No fun to play with people these days :(

I first found out about DDR around 2000. Since then, I was completely obsessed with it for about a year and a half. I would play it whenever I found a machine in an arcade, on PSX(2), and using simulators like StepMania. Sadly, my DDR career is coming to an end. I honestly just don't care to play it AT ALL anymore.

I still like the style of music, though, so I may be getting into other Bemani in the future. Beatmania IIDX, Pop'n Music, and Guitar Freaks all look promising, though I've only played Guitar Freaks properly once or twice. I'll definitely be picking some Bemani titles whenever I buy the flip-top cover for PS2 and start importing.

OH HELL YES! I just got wood looking at that pic. Where did you get that, how much, and will it work for Xbox? I'm dying!

I don't know about that specific pad, but RedOctane has quite a few pads available and they are supposively very reliable. You can get an adapter for Xbox, as most pads are for PSX(2). You could also get one for PC if you really get addicted and start up a StepMania collection.

I felt much like you did Spike...when I used to manage an arcade I would always find myself looking at the DDR Extreme machine when the place was dead...when no one was looking, I'd try matching the arrows during the demo songs...finally I noticed a song I actually knew from years ago(Sky High) when someone was playing...so I finally broke down, played, and proceeded to get pretty hooked...and unlike many of the kiddies that play some songs to death, I try to enjoy a good mix when playing...

been playing for about 3 years, although the last year or so has only consisted of going to the arcade once a week to play a few games. I gave up playing at home a LONG time ago.

I finally got a Heavy AAA last weekend... Freckles :spock: seems like so many of the good players out there can AAA all this hard shit, and it takes me this long to AAA one of the most overdone songs.... blah...

Heh...Go Spike! I've been playing DDR since the end of 2000ish. Kristoff here on the forms and I discovered it in Columbus around that time and promptly ordered the import DC versions. Although I got much more into it than him, we still had a blast. I still play it frequently and have got rather good at it (can do most Cata, or for thoes not familiar with the jargon, diff 9 songs, with ease). I dont play much at the arcade because I cant stand the annoying kids who dominate the machine and put about 30 credit in the second they get there so nobody else can play. I guess their parents never taught them about sharing. I do suggest going import (dont know if anybody has mentioned this as I didnt read all the posts) go for DDR Extreme. Has over 100 songs and some old favortes that never made a US relese (Butterfly anyone!).:multi_co:
