Most gaming mags nowadays seem to be nothing more than industry whores, spreading their legs for EA or Sony's diseased cocks with the quickest of speed. It doesn't matter how shitty the sex was, they scream anyways cuz they got paid.
But a few months ago i picked up a gamesTM at a local b&n and i really liked it. I enjoy the hint of dry humor, there are no lame attempts to make videogames seem “cool” (this is known as the Maxim disease), and they like many of the same games I do. The reason I bought the mag in the first place, though, is their big RETRO section in the back. The last two i got had big PC-E and Game Gear spreads, various interesting pics and features, and a funny layout. It beats Game Informer by a mile.
The bad: It’s a UK mag and since i am in the States the news and new features stuff is either obsolete or doesn’t exactly pertain to me. And it’s $8.95. Ouch.
It’s still worth it, IMO. The retro stuff is worth the price alone. Also, the internet has sorta made mags obsolete as news sources and i also like getting a different perspective on gaming. We in the US are spoiled compared to the UK, it seems…
Anyways, it probably has been mentioned before, but i'm here say it again: props to gamesTM!
