The hack and slash games from EA, more specifically. They look pretty cool, and The Two Towers is only $20.00 in most stores in my area. So, is it worth picking up?

For 20 bucks not bad, the first game was pretty bad though from what I heard. Some of them are made by different companies too. But yeah for 20 dollars the games are alright if you like the movies.

They're both very good games, but 'Two Towers' is needlessly difficult at times. I'd go with ROTK.

I found ROTK to be incredibly difficult, much moreso than The Two Towers. ROTK does have the co-op play though, so if you are having trouble beating a level you can get a friend to help.

Are these games in any way "dungeon hacks", in that are they like Diablo or Dungeon Siege?

I just got into Diablo 2 again after > 1 year hiatus... and now I have problems with too little sleep from playing it too much. Again.

No, they are totally arcade games, nothing like Diablo. Think more of Golden Axe.

I love those 2 games... At first I didn't like 2 Towers when I got it, because I found it too difficult, but when you learn the controls well (specially how to block and counterattack) then it's quite easy. Since I already knew how to play, I finished ROTK in 3 days. I also cleared the first bonus stage.

Its a joyous 3D lovely beat 'em up.

Lots of magic effects, interactive scenery, special commands ect.

Very much like being in the movie.

they are pretty cool, I beat my roommates copy of the two towers before he did (infact he sold it before he could beat it cause hes a sucker) its a pretty cool game, although I haven't played any of the other ones. My main gripe with the game is the camera angles, they will have you shooting arrows at enemies that aren't even on screen, and sometimes even slashing them and shit. it gets to be quite annoying. you don't do anything in the game beyond the hack and slash thing, which can get repetitive. The game moves from FMVs to in game sequences very smoothly.

For $20, personally I would let it pass, but thats only because I've already beaten it. Pay more money for ROTK, naw, It doesn't interest me enough.

Its a cool thing to have for lord of the rings fans, although it doesn't have much replay value.

I think they look very nice graphically, but seem to repeat themselves on the gaming side of things, and can get allitle off putting with the "who am I" cos you can get lost in the crowd.

Worth getting for the looks of the games though, although I cant stand the films, but hey we are entitled to our own opinions ;)

If you are playing the LOTR games on GBA they are almost direct ripoffs of Diablo 1.

I got tired of playing them after the first quest or two.

Nice graphics, ambience, etc.

However, the gameplay is a little simplistic, and can be pretty repetitive at times.

All in all, they're a pretty decent way to blow off some steam, but lack the depth and complexity of a good fighter (like most beat-em-ups do I guess.

The first one (TTT) is pretty hard. I can't finish it with Aragorn, but I can with Legolas after I upgraded his arrows to Mythril (shooting through orcs work well :)

The second, initially, seems very hard (Especially the Wizard's path), but once you buy that orc bane combo (the simple one), you can just abuse it through the entire game, in fact, I didn't have to continue until the last stage of either Aragorn or Sam's paths.

Perosnally I thought that The Two Towers had somewhat smoother controls. A lot of the combos and counters where easy to pull off.
Return of The King is indeed a more difficult game. But it is definetly aimed at co-op play.
(Especially when you've got to slay some 60 of Sauron's monion before moving on to the next portion of the level.)

Get a buddy in there, and things will be easier.
