Windows XP: Home VS. Pro

I bought a great new PC (HP Pavillion a420n) and it came with Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed. Is there any real reason for me to bother installing Professional?

For the average user, Professional is totally unecessary. Above XP Home, Pro offers a more server-oriented environment. You would want Pro if you were planning on running a system with multiple processors, or if you wanted to use remote desktop or EFS.

It's really geared towards a work/server user with stuff like centralized administration, group policies and roaming user profiles.

I use pro version on my pc. I use the home version at work and to me it seems strange. Like it's missing something and you just don't know what. I'd stay with home for you since you already have it installed and it was probably free with the computer.

I use Pro because you dont need to register it over the internet.

Yup, Pirated Pro.

the main difference is that you can only use one cpu on home edition.

and its green. 'pro' blue is much prettier.

I use home on my laptop and pro on my desktop. I really don't notice any difference
