I had this idea a while back.

Instead of making my cab a boring old red conversion, Ill do a dedicated *looking* Garou cabinet.

I wanted to get vynil printed up with the Garou poster (or the AES cover artwork) that would cover both sides of the cab.

Ok so thats all done, yellow on each side. T-molding would be either yellow or black, not sure yet.

Full marquee up top.

The control panel though, I would need to no just make a yellow MVS one. I would do a complete custom one using some of the fonts / style from the game.

Any of you think you could just throw together something to give me an idea of what I could do for the control panel?
(or have artwork I could use for the sides)

I've done something similar to this. I made a dedicated cab to the Playstation for an art project. I had used an existing cab and fixed it up. I had to replace the t-molding and put up printed artwork on each side and made my own custom marquee. I even made my own control panel with artwork.

I can post up pics if you are interested in making this. This would be a cool project.

That would be cool, Im planning on doing the same thing but with garou.

Im not too great with photoshop though so making a custom CPO would be hard to do, and printing custom vynil would be sort of difficult but i guess it would work.

i don't have any motw artwork atm, but i'd suggest not to put too many logos or pics on it.

i think i'd try to make a yellow version of the standard mvs overlay.

maybe you could use the cover artwork for the sides and put the large marquee with the logo in. imo i'd be enough.
black t-mold could replace the cover artwork's black frame - yellow might look boring ...

Just so you know there is a Garou large marquee on eBay right now. It's cut but ask for measurements. These don't turn up very often.

I know lithy, but Ill probably have to get one made anyway because the cab has wierd proportions compared to a normal neo.

On the CPO I didnt want to just make a yellow MVS overlay.

I wanted to get like the garou cracked metal letter kind of font and put them for the letters. And I dunno, something different. More of a machine metal look you know?

Please some W.I.P pictures of it when you get the marquee made. I'm extremely curious as to how this mod will turn out...

David,

Could you send me pics of your dedicated Playstation cab? If so could you send the pics to pdhaywood@earthlink.net? Thanks!

Here is the pic of the cab I worked on.

Nesagawa: If you want custom marquee, the best method is to print on overlay paper which can be done at kinkos or some graphics bureau. I think when I did mine it was 20 bucks but I knew the guy and I was getting a lot of work done through him so he gave me a good deal. This material shines through when using a light source much like a mini marquee. I think they come in various thicknesses but the one I used was decent enough w/ bending.

All the side artwork was printed digitally. This was a real b--ch to do because I had to basically adhere the artwork using a super foam adhesive (super 77?) made by 3M to adhere to the surface. I considered vinyl as it doesn't tear but I didn't know where to get that done locally.

All the sticks were regular arcade parts I got from various arcades/companies. If you need any advice on this, let me know as I spent half a year building this thing and I think I could've done a better job of this but for the time and the lack of money, this was fine but not my final design. In total this costed me about 1000.00. I think if I knew what I know now, this would've been far cheaper.

Phil: I have more pics I can send you but it will be later tonight as I didn't put them up on my site yet. Are you interested in doing this kinda cab?

If anyone has any questions about this, let me know.

When you do apply the vinyl or any kinda side panel artwork, get one of those squeegy like things at the hardware store. They have plastic ones that have a smooth edge to it so when you apply it it will remove any air gaps.

I think that was the biggest bit-h of the whole proejct was that.

I had to design my own artwork from non-copyrighted characters (my art teacher told me this). I originally have designs that had some psx characters (I did this back in 1999 so there was no ps2).

Yeah, I would've made a neo cab if I was collecting back then. This would be a cool proejct for custom garou cab as I have never seen one.

One thing if you use photoshop for your side panel art and marquee art is to make your artwork no lesser than 100dpi. This is because if you have too low of a resolution at large sizes, it will look very pixelized. You have to remember that 100dpi at around 20 inches by 20 inches will be like a 100 megabyte file w/o layers.

I planned on doing it high quality. A high res scan of the cover/poster art for garou (without logos or anything) is what Im shooting for.
Copyrighted or not, I dun care.

Thats the easy part compared to the CPO, which is going to be a bitch to design.

Can you guys post the AES covers and whatever posters they made for garou? I need to see some art so I can get an idea of what the CPO is going to look like and what Im going to put as the sideart.
