To tell you the truth I kind of liked it. Melodically it isn't very polished but it's got some excellent live mixing, it's DEFINATELY more of a work of art than it is an album so i can see why some hiphop/DJ fans would dislike it.

Having heard only the White Album previously, I shudder to think what kind of shit resides on the Black Album. Honestly, this is a definitely improvement. Doesn't sound too much like its ahead of its time. Acts like Unkle, DJ Shadow, Fatboy Slim, and others have made tracks similar in style to these.

From a mixing standpoint, its outstanding, but sonically its been done before.

Jay-Z is one of the worst rappers of the past 10 years.

Jay-Z is a legend like Kenny is a legend.

What did you just say?
And to Nesagwa, Jay-Z is fucking great. If you actually spend the time to listen to his Black album, you will be amazed on how deep that album is.

Jay-Z is bullshit... he's like the Kenny G of the rap world. Fuck them both backwards.

Jay-Z is quite overrated, I can think of at least 10 MC's of the top of my head better than he could ever hope to be. I like some of the beats on this "Grey Album" though, i'll give it that.

why would anyone say Jay-Z is good? why? he just plain sucks, he's rapping for suburban white kids, he conjures up these images in his words that attract white teenage males, and they fall in love with his shit. i can tell you right now that i myself can bust his ass, and i've only been writing rhymes for a year or two. he lacks the intellectual side to his stuff, he lacks the poets soul, he lacks pretty huch everything a good rapper needs. give me the Wu-Tang clan, Blackalicious, KRS-1, Jurrasic-5(though they've gotten bad), ghetto boyz, public enemy, eazy-e, NWA(with eazy), saul williams, and a fucking beatboxing battle between razhel, kenny mohammed, and killa kella. get Jay-Z, and the countless other rap burgulars (burgulars meaning they rob rap of that which makes it good) off stage, and give me the real talent that hardly ever talks. i think the Wu-Tang clan puts it best, seeing themselves as verbal Kung-Fu masters, seeing themselves as verbal disasters, breaking the bones stabbing the stones, and killing their enemies with words that could make a grown man cry. they sit quet and reserved, they sit unheard, and they sit in waiting for a chance to strike, a chance to spring, a chance to bring hell down on all of those who can't sing, those without talent, those who rap for use of their phalice, and the spending of money, those who rap about girls with big boobs, rapping about their "honeys". one should rap for life, to bring enlightenment, one should rap to bring the noise and bring out the sound within. but that's just my two cents.

Jay Z is pretty much the human embodiment of what is wrong with the hip hop scene today. He's milking the industry with meaningless rhymes, horrible beats and a new cd every six months.

I admit, there was a time when he was good like 5 years ago, but then again, the overall scene was a lot better in 1999 as well.

lol, I like how nobody apparently actually listened to this album, which is what this thread is about, and just saw fit to slam Jay-Z left and right.

Its actually quite a good listen.

For the love of God... don't drag Hitler into anything... Nobody loves Hitler. Nobody in their right mind loves Hitler. Nobody in their right mind likes Jay-Z either though.
