~>_<~ YES

Though it sucks, you'd think illinois would have more bemani machines, but they DON'T.

Anyway.... anyone interested in this topic, please go here:

www.bringmorebemani.com

It's a petition for Namco to start putting more bemani machines in their arcades.

FUCK BEMANI GAMES! *They're nothing more than Human Amusement Rides, where YOU (the person jumping around and such) are the "Amusement" to the people watching. How on Earth games where you jump around watching arrows on the screen set to BASS Pumping music ever became popular I'll never understand? It's these damned machines that turned the ARCADE into a freckin' Mainstream Rodeo bringing in all these wanna be break dancers, guitar players and Justin Timberlake clones trying to look cool for their dates hoping to run their JIMMY DEEP into some poontang. :oh_no: *I know a lot of people even amongst the Die-Harders like this stuff, but why? Maybe if it was a bit more interactive than freggin' arrows on a screen, or beating on virtual drums, where the game sucked your dick or something then it be worth a hoot and a holla' back. Otherwise if this is what is keeping ARCADES alive and well, I'd rather it just die off then. It's a mockery to the days of "True" gaming with Uprights in every corner.

You are only mentioning Dance Dance Revolution games, or maybe Para Para Paradise, still, most Bemani games aren't about "jumping around", you seem to know very little about them.

Some people (like me) really enjoy music and music-related games, and dislike going to the shooting range and being "badass", sorry.

...yeah I hear you man. It's just that so many damn Arcades (the ones left) have so many of these things that it pisses me off to no end. Heck I even saw one at a guy's Pizzaria and all the dorks from the nearby Junior High would come in there and play. I'm sure he's made back his $25,000 investment by now, but I dunno man... to me it's just not "gaming". If you like it then mad props to you dude. I like music too, but I don't intend to go and be some Wanna Be D.J. scratchin' records, beating drums and dancing around to Pop music either.

No need to apologize on that, but going into the ruff on military TCS excersizes or just regular rifle range is a lot more fun, and down right rewarding on the "Might of Right" and "Old School This-Is-What-We-Did-Before-Video Games route." Do you realize how hard it is to find dudes with pulses anymore, people who don't mind getting dirty and going HUNTING and shit? *Then again being in Japan where only the Yakuza, the Cops and the SDF have guns, unless it's been permitted after a decade of scrutiny, I guess it be hard to make that statement with any real assurance. If you ever come to Texas give me a holla'... Down here in "The Republic" I'll turn you into a STORM RIDIN' militant mofo in no time. Go back and kickstart a new Imperial Army and declare yourself SHOGUN!

I know what you mean, but I just laugh, when I see "dorks" trying to play Bemani games, I just laugh at them or just look at them intimidatingly for fun. It works, and entertains me.

Haha, and regarding your training proposal, would be interesting, I have been training several martial arts for over 15 years, maybe we could share some knowledge if we meet.

Unfortunately bemani games get a bad name because everyone thinks of "DDR" when it get's mentioned but even though DDR is probably my favorite bemani there are a lot of other great games in the series.

Guitar Freaks - Basicly you follow the bars on the screen and hold down the button on the guitar and pluck the pick when the bar reaches the stationary ones at the end.

Pop'n Music - Same idea as most bemania, you hit the correct button when the drop thingie hits the buttom of the screen.

beatmania - this time you have 8 bars you need to worry about, 7 are for keys and one is for a turntable scratch.

Drummania - pretty much as close as you're ever going to get to actually drumming in a video game... It's got to be my favorite bemani to watch other people play because it looks like they are actually playing drums. There are 3 main drums, two symbols, and a foot petal. It's probably the most "powerful" in all the series. I go nuts when I play though I'm not that great yet because the only one close to me is in the movie theater and you have to see a movie to get in. :(

There are also a couple other bemani games including the new Karaoke Revolution which is loads of fun if you're with lots of people.

So yeah there's more to bemani then dancing around like a queer.

Pop'n Music has 9 buttons, and Beatmania is divided into Beatmania, Beatmania IIDX and Beatmania III. IIDX is the only one that uses 7 keys.

There are also other series such as Para Para Paradise and Dancemaniax, and there are also other companies that release "music games", take for example Namco's Taiko no Tatsujin series, AW's EZ2DJ and EZ2Dancer and AndaMiro's Pump it Up.

Amen. Well said.

Mercenary X99, why did you click on this thread if you don't like Bemani games? We didn't need a rant about how they "destroyed" arcades. If you don't like them, fine, don't bother posting about them then. But by the same token, realize that DDR is not the same thing as everything else in the series. DDR gets the most attention, sure. And it's often the target of ridicule by other people (often those who have never tried the game, they've just decided in their minds that it's stupid and won't give it a chance). It's not a case of "You play one, you've played them all".

yes I miss the days of seeing so many upright cabinets in arcades, but those days are gone forever. Those game don't make bank any more. I miss them too, but there's nothing that can be done about it. Yes, I'm an arcade junkie as long as I can remember, and have watched them change before my eyes... but I don't take my anger out on Bemani. I didn't know what the big deal was about DDR until I played it for myself.

You obviously don't realize how deep the games are, and how there's always the challenge of getting better. For many people this is the appeal. I've been playing pretty much nothing BUT Beatmania IIDX for like the last 5 months. There is so much skill advancement that can be done, the feeling of knowing you're getting better and beating your old scores is a very nice feeling. And the introduction of the VJ Army Online Ranking Site has motivated me to play even harder so I can more easily compare my scores with others. See, that's what the old arcade days were about... high scores! I think gaming in general got worse when people stopped caring about playing for score on games and instead cared about whether you could "finish" the game. Beatmania might look like a "Wanna Be D.J. scratchin' records", but writing the game off when you don't know a thing about it is very sad.

...so anyway, back on topic. that pink theme for GF11/DM10 sure does look queer

DDR and other Bemani are about the only thing keeping a lot of arcades in the US in business, these days. They've by no means "destroyed" them.

the sexy thing is that the Beatmania IIDX 10th Style machines in Japan have card readers, you insert a card to save your name and scores, which songs you've passed and all that jazz. And each machine is hooked up to a network along with every other machine in Japan, and you'd be able to see where your scores would place compared to EVERYONE ELSE, instead of just those who play at your arcade. Sounds like such cool shit.

...of course, any machine that makes it onto these shores won't be able to hookup to the network, or use the card reader :( but I guess that's a moot point since the closest machine to me is 4 hours away... :annoyed: I'll just have to make do with the import PS2 versions. Hurry up, 7th Style!

I'm jst going to jump in and say that I enjoy all of the Bemani games...from DDR to IIDX :)..I don't care that I "Smash arrows on that game" I find it fun and that's all that counts...I'm not saiying that you can't think what you want...but I'm not a "fag" for playing these games...

anyways I can't wait till my arcade upgrades the IIDX 8th to a 10th...and we always get the latest GD and DM kits so when it's time to upgrade it won't be a problem :D

I ordered PNM 9 for my J-PS2 and I can't wait for it to arrive...in the arcade i've only played PNM 6 with sucked compaired to the latest mixes...

To all who wanted to OWN me on my viewpoint P.O.V. that's cool, as I take every punch square on the chin, lick my wounds and come back swingin' again. I guess we can all "agree to disagree" on this. I know damn good and well that not all BEMANI games are D.D.R. or PUMP IT UP, and did actually give these games a serious go once. Thing is that aside from racking up points, I just don't "FEEL" it is all. I'm actually (and I'm not patronizing anyone, I'm being serious) glad to have heard some sound reasons as to why fellow die-hard gamers would embrace the BEMANI games overall. Because up until now, I personally just don't and still don't see what the big deal is.

...to Each their own.

Hate to bump this topic back up from the second page but I just saw the pictures. I really wish my arcade would get Guitar Freaks.

All you people that think Bemani is just dancing around like an idiot your 100% wrong. If you have a prefrence in music you'll like one Bemani game.

The best part with Guitar Freaks and Drum Mania is that the two machines can be hooked up to each other to play Session Mode, so 2 people play the guitars and the other covers the drums. It's a whole lot of fun.

I just wish they'd bring them out to the states. All the arcades care about is Dance Dance, and one arcade near me wants to get IIDX 9th Style but I doubt many people will play it, because it's REALLY friggen hard.

Just give me my Guitar Freaks damn it!

Gotta say I wish more of these music related games could find exposure here in the States...especially the DJ aspect of beatmania...

as for DDR and PIU, I used to be one of those guys who'd see people playing and swore I'd never get on one of those silly machines...until I became a location manager at an arcade and finally gave in to curiosity on a particularly slow day...and actually had fun with it...

it took some j-pop to remind me that music is something universal that we can all enjoy in some form or other...:)
