a friend showed me his that he bought last weekend
and I dropped by the comic shop to pick it up.
great artwork by Shinkiro.
anyone who likes the garbage SNK has their artists putting out
now and whines about shinkiro can go suck a fuck.
the covers pretty sweet though.
shinikiro_geelay_chunners.jpg

as it was pointed out to me by NTM the portion with guile
is a transparent overlay to the main cover with chun li,
*see the booby showing beneath guiles hand
a nice way to blow a ten spot.
and btw. also picked up a box of AKIRA toys. they were the gatchapon
figures but now just repackaged in small boxes. I went home a very happy man.

All of the covers done by the regular artist have been the best IMO. That one's nice and shiny though.

Shinkirou pretty well defined the 'look' of all the SNK characters.

I was sad to see him go.

BTW compare the art that rarehero posted with some of Shinkirou's really early stuff (like the Fatal Fury instruction manual), the improvement is unbelievable.

You Can't Spell "SNK" Without Shinkiro

I actually saw that cover a couple months back in an issue of Previews. And I must say that Shinkiro's artwork just keeps on looking better and better. Every time I see that cover (or any of Shinkiro's more recent works), I keep on thinking to myself what would've happened had he stayed onboard to do the illustrations for KOF 2001-onwards. Nevertheless, I'm quite pleased to see his works hitting the mainstream.

Also, in a recent issue of Previews, I saw a preview for the Street Fighter TPB (which collects the main stories from Street Fighter #1-6) which, oddly enough, also has a cover by Shinkiro. It has Cammy in the foreground and a up-close shot of Chun-Li in the background. If I had a picture, I'd share it with all of you, but I guess I'm going to have to wait until next month when the TPB hits bookstores nationwide.

hes good.... really good..... at realistic faces and the like- IMHO.as one or THE original artist for SNK artwork hes in a class of his own.........-----BUT---- Something seems to be lacking about the way he captures "action & movement":( - they almost seem like -"CosPLay" , and lack that special anime Impact. Also the way that he has that black outline around his "realistic"characters--- just not my style.

Shinikiro...

his style is one of my favorites of ALL TIME, it really caught my eye when I first saw his take in kof98. a talent indeed.

Its odd how people don't respect Shinkiro's talent, but they admire Falcoon... :shame: :shame:

That's because Falcoon's art is awesome, Shinikiro's isn't.

Don't get me wrong, I can respect Shinkiro for some of the work he's done for SNK, but for the most part, his art is ugly. Guile looks like crap in that pic.

I'm with a few people here, it's fantastic art, but something about it, the style just is captivating. Almost too realistic for video game art.

While I like Falcoon's art a little better most of the time, I have to say that this is some of Shinikiro's best looking stuff yet. I may not like the style as much, but Shinikiro is starting to get so good that they look like real people. I mean, my god, that looks like a cosplay picture almost... You gotta respect that.

Some of my favorite pics of all time were drawn by that man, so he's a badass for sure. The only problem, I feel, is everyone looks the same. Everyone starts to look related, or something.

I may be the only one, but alot of his art sucks for capcom characters. (Guile as a example)

His work with Iori is easily some of the best art ever created.
Its so amazing to look back to neo in 96 and 97, and see how times have changed so much..
I just cant believe neo is dead..

i do agree with you mr LWK.
after seeing art by akiman and whoever
it is different seeing art by Shinkiro for the street fighter characters.
and alot of his art does reflect posing kind of posturing.
but I never thought that really took away really.
and I'm not too sure what anyone is talking about.
that's basically what I would expect guile to look like in a
non stylized, human interpretation.

thankyou Buttasuperb...you took the words right out of my mouth- its great "realistic"Cosplay looking work and I respect that- but man the way he has them in certain poses and expresions- it lacks that "CONVINCING DRAMATIC IMPACT" as Falcoons, and in almost all of his female/male faces they look 9 times out of ten the same------as if they are somewhat family? :spock:and why oh why he has the Black outline to all of his works arond the characters is beyond me- it just makes the artwork look flat-:(

Falcoon's art is alright, but its just the same anime which I've seen A MILLION TIMES OVER. When I saw his kof2003 works I was... disappointed :spock:.

plus I like Akiman and Kinu Nishimura alot more.

But with Shinikiro its another story, almost a breath of fresh air. I love his realistic take on videogame/comic characters, something special happens everytime.

From GunstarHeroblack:

well GunstarHeroblack, Shinikiro's art lack that anime impact because ITS NOT ANIME. they have that REALISTIC impact if you've noticed. And that outline isn't that much of a turnoff is it?

i believe it has something to do with his airbrushing technique.
you'll probably find that common for most people that create airbrushed art.
how airbrushed art looks flat despite the black lines is beyond me.
but whatever you like.
art is subjective.
I've been a fan of art from Mr. S from the beginning though,
and to see his art and how it's evolved even more to this point, I believe is amazing.

I dont like falcoon either.

The hard outlines on guile and other pictures by him just make it look like a cut out of a photograph. It just doesnt fit at all.

Why cant we go back to non-photoshopped semi-cartoon non-anime fan art NORMAL stuff.
