It is really nothing like Ikaruga, other than in spirit of course. The music and the visuals are fantastic, as is the gameplay. The short range sword is a great play mechanic, and a necessity for mastering the game. I like having all of the weapons available from the start, with the option to power them up in whichever order you choose. Some people don't like that, but it is really a matter of taste.

While I love the game and think it is great, I wouldn't say it is worth the asking price. If you can find it for under $100, go for it, but as far as the $150 and up I have seen it hit in the past, forget it! It is a great shmup, but there are others that are just as good if not better for much more reasonable prices.

Hope this helps.

Great game, one of teh best shmups, ever.

I like teh Saturn version,as I am a sucker for cheesy Anime cut-scenes,although the ST-V version plays better, with no loading time.

Simply put: its easily the best shmup ever made.

Its definitely worth around 100-150$, given that you'll practically HAVE to spend countless hours playing trying to figure out the best strategies to maximize your score and just trying to figure out enemy attack patterns in general. Hitoshi Sakimoto did an excellent job with the score (also did Souky) and Hiroshi Iuch really showed what he could do with this.

Best boss fights ever, great soundtrack, excellent scoring system, excellent weapons system+leveling up, tight control, 2 gameplay modes, several extras, and some of the best gameplay you'll ever encounter? Yeah, RS is worth it.

If the game was kept full 2D it would have looked much better IMO. 3D parts are horrid for me.

gameplay wise, the ship maneuvers verry well, but well i don t like the weapon system... and it features the one i hate most, the laser blade. From the same company Ikaruga is much more action-packed.

Honestly, i played it only last year, and i fell in a big delusion since i was waiting for a much more impressive game.

If you have played big titles like RType Final, Ikaruga or PS2 Silpheed then beware it s not that great. If you have only played classic 3d shooters like Ray Storm, GDarius, RType Delta or Einhander then it s ok. Not worth $150 at all to me (you can get it much cheaper in japanese used games shops).

That s just my opinion though.

I have to say that i found the game quite easy too, i have the habit of shmups but i am not a god. Finished it the day i first played it. Maybe it s a problem of difficulty setting though, i ve played straight without touching the menus.

This company made great games afterward as i said. I love Silpheed PS2 and Ikaruga :)

Silpheed and R-Type Final better than RS? Are you insane?!

You 1CC'd it in a day? Right...
