Been a while since the last studio sale... fine for my wallet, but...

Anyways, by now everyone knows the "old favorites" from Pioneer - I'd like to see what people have to recommend as far as more recent releases go.

Last Exile is quite good... what else?

Also, Pioneer has a really nice lineup of soundtracks (not limited to their stuff). Eva, Hellsing, FLCL, Heat Guy J...

As usual, link and code are in the sig.

I ordered all of Mahoromatic + the spring special with box to hold the rest of the series, and the SNK vs. Capcom Chaos manga.

I was holding back from buying Mahoromatic because there wasn't a box set available but now there is so I ordered it.

I made sure I used the link that you posted also.

Thanks for the infor as usual Nick!

I ordered

Last Exile vol 2&3
Trigun vol 6-8
Last Exile OST 1&2

I'd also recommend the third Patlabor movie as well as Vandread and Vandread: Second Stage

Ah! My Goddess is one of the best Anime movies I've ever seen. Maybe it's because I love the Manga and I love the characters? Maybe 'cause it's just a damn good movie? I LOVE this movie, which is why I have the R2 Aa!Megami-sam LE that cost quite a bit. If you've never seen it, you need to.

Ai Yori Aoshi- Harem type show. Heavy on the love story. I really enjoyed it and just finished watching it for a second time. I'll definitely watch it again.

Akira- Do I even need to say anything?

Captain Herlock- If you are a Matsumoto Leiji/Reiji fan, you need to see this. I've only seen the first disc (as it's all that's out so far), but it seems like it's going to be another damn fine Herlock/Harlock show.

Chobits- If you liked the manga, you'll like the show as they run close to being parallel, with only a few minor things being changed/moved.

Dual- Harem show that pokes a lot of fun at Evangelion. A sleeper hit, IMO. It aired on Tech TV but I don't think it really took off. Definitely worth seeing. I've watched it twice and will go back and watch it again.

El Hazard- If you are going to buy anything from this series, make it the OVA collection. The first OVA is perfection and ends perfectly. The second OVA and the TV series, while decent on their own, just shit on the quality of the original OVA.

Fushigi Yugi- You want a LONG LONG LONG love story? 52 episodes for the TV series and a bunch more OVAs before it's over. It's a decent show, but it feels too long IMO.

Gatekeepers- I recommended this to Nick when it was on major sale, not sure if he liked it. It's a Gonzo show, so the animation quality is pretty good. Magical students fighting bad guys with an interesting (to me anyway) story. Gatekeepers 21 was a let down compared to this, IMO, but GK21 was a darker series overall as well.

Haibane Renmei- From the director of Lain. The first disc or so doesn't seem to have a bigger plot going with no real antagonist or what have you, but it keeps you interested and there is definitely a plot holding it all together.

Hand Maid May- Another harem (Tenchi) show. Interesting and fun, worth checking out if you're into that sort of thing.

Heat Guy J- It's airing on MTV some time. Check it out. Worth watching. Not sure if anyone would see it as worth owning, however. I really like it, but it's a show that seems to leave a lot of people in the middle in terms of liking or hating it.

Hellsing- I fail to see what makes people so wet for this show. It's a decent show, but nothing spectacular. It's not overly bloody, though I guess you could say it's "violent." By violent I mean people take violent actions and such, but nothing that would make a person squirm I guess. Decent series, but not the be all end all that people make it out to be.

Last Exile- Gonzo show. Damn near theatrical quality animation. AWESOME story and fair amount of action. BUY THIS!

Mahoromatic- Gainax show. For a "maid show," if you take the time it can be pretty deep. Leave it to Gainax to make a show that is light hearted and fun 90% of the time, kicks you in the testicles HARD at the ending, lifts you up at the absolute end, but leaves you with questions. I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS SERIES ENOUGH. I couldn't wait for the Spring Special in the US, so I bought the R2 DVD. Of course, as soon as the SS with box and extra was announced, it was in my cart (this was on one of those $300 orders I made under your banner, Nick :)) and ordered in an instant. I've watched through it twice and need to see it again soon.

Nanako, Amazing Nurse- AVOID this series. I have the LE set and I don't think I'll ever watch it again. Just really bad and all it was about was fan service. No, my LE isn't for sale, but it's still not that good a series.

Onmyoji- If you're looking for a good live action movie with mysticism in Feudal Japan (no samurai, sorry, just priests and stuff), look no further. Damn good movie, even though it's not Anime :D

Sakura Wars Movie- Thanks to qube, I have a new found love all things Sakura Wars/Taisen and this is no exception. Being able to see the Imperial Theatre Troupe in theatrical quality animation is awe-inspiring for a fan. If you aren't familiar with at least the others in the Anime series, this may not do a lot for you I'm afraid. Damn good for a fan, not sure about non-fans.

Someday's Dreamers- Not sure how to explain this one, but I'm really liking it. Worth checking out.

Soultaker- Odd, yet interesting. Not overly deep, but requires some thinking as you don't get everything straight away. Pretty decent over all, though not spectacular.

Strawberry Eggs- ...interesting. Show about a dude who dresses up as a woman to become a teacher in a school where the principal won't hire men because women are infinitely superior. He proves her wrong, of course, but the other things that happen in the series... well, it's interesting anyway.

Sugar, A Little SNow Fairy- This really hit me by surprise. I preordered it, as I do everything, and expected an overly childish show. What I was given is a childish show with characters you learn to REALLY like and that can really kick you in the testicles when needed. GREAT series. If you can't stand childish stuff, however, stay away. DEFINITELY worth checking out.

Tenchi- I bought the R2 LE set Rightstuf is selling, do I need to say more? If you want the best parts, however, check out the OVA and the 3rd movie. Best parts of the series, IMO.

Texnolyze- I've only seen trailers on this one, but it looks like it's going to be good. Animeondvd.com has an advance review of it up, though I haven't read it as I am waiting to receive my own copy first.

Trigun- Fun. Worth seeing.

Vandread- This is one of my ABSOLUTE favorite series. It's a Gonzo show. It's one of the few series I've seen at LEAST 6 times from start to finish. I've unfortunately also seen it in English once, and it's not a BAD dub, though Dhita isn't Dhita unless it's Kakazu Yumi. She MAKES the show IMO. You need to see this. No doubt about it. Even my brother, who tends to hate Anime, begrudginly admited to enjoying this show. BUY IT DAMN IT!!

X- You like interesting stories, but ULTRA depressing? Watch this series then. It's a damn good series, though there doesn't seem to be a lot of love for it on this site. The animation quality is pretty damn high and it's a different take on the story presented in the movie (movie was way too rushed).

Looks like I'm skipping this sale. I already own 99% of what Pioneer/Geneon has done that I wanted or have previously preordered (using Nick's link, of course) and disturbingly enough, that's ALMOST everything they've ever released. One of the few studios I can say that consisitently puts out quality shows.

I'd just like to add that Strawberry Eggs is AWESOME if you watch it without having slept for 3 days straight.

And Mahoromatic = sex.

I haven't seen Ai Yori Aoshi, but I've heard about it and it sounds great.

OK, I lied. I ordered a couple of soundtracks I didn't already have.

I ordered:

Last Exile 1 & 2
Utena
Chobits Character Collection
Haibane Renmei
Hand Maid May (it was spend $9 on shipping, or $10 on another CD for free shipping... so I went with free shipping and an extra CD...)
Someday's Dreamer's

I think there was one more, but I can't remember and my order's not being emailed to me yet...

I didn't like Ai Yori Aoshi. I'm all for harem shows, but this would've been much better served with JUST Aoi and... whatever that flake of a guy was named. Hell, they were both flakes! I bought it all, but finally just gave up...

A lot of people do like it, though. ;)

What's the word on Haibane, people? Gets more... interesting?

I think I'm loading up on soundtracks this sale. Nice to see good music finally getting domestic releases! Should put SM and Ever Anime right out of business.

Haibane, as I said in my big ass post, is an interesting show. It's one of those shows where you sit and watch it, it keeps you interested, but there doesn't seem to be anything... "big" going on. Hell, the 4th disc just shipped, and having watched the first 3, I'm curious as to how it's going to end and why. It sort of reminds me on Totoro in that there doesn't seem to be a "bad guy" or anything really bad/important happening, but you still sit and watch it anyway.

I thought it was worth checking out, but I also like Ai Yori Aoshi :D
