Can't vouch for Final Fight (only have Jap version), but the main thing with Sonic is the music, it's completely redone for the USA, not that either version is bad, but the Japanese opening theme song is one of my favourites, classic SEGA stuff.

Dunno about Final Fight either, but I much prefer the US music in Sonic CD than the Japanese.

The JPN final fight CD has the girls un-edited. In the US version, their shirts go down further.

Poison's shirt and shorts are longer in the US version. They didn't censor him/her (she's a transvestite) like Nintendo did with the SNES version where she is a man.

They also changed some names of characters, for ex. Sodom is called "Katana" in the Mega CD version.

...don't forget that in the intro where DAMND is calling up Mike Haggar, we see his daughter Jessica with her boobs damn near busting out of a white bra. In the SEGA CD version she's wearing a red dress. DAMND was changed to Trasher as well as Sodom's name was changed.

The U.S. version of FF CD had minor censoring: the girl punks (Poison and Roxy) were given slightly longer clothes, blood was taken out, and Jessica wears her red dress in the intro (she was stripped to her underwear in the arcade and Japanese versions).

Poison/Roxy clothes:

our infamous US version :(

Final Fight CD - About the Japanese Mega CD version, there was something I heard about the restroom segment in the Metro City Park stage. I heard about light sexual references or some suspicious stuff scribbled all over the stalls, is that true?

Sonic CD - the only US/Japanese difference I know of is the intro songs are totally different from each other, and the japanese one is better.

Final Fight on Sega CD is probably closest to the arcade port, but it still suck, biggest problem? Voice acting, so lame that I want to turn off the sound, with emulation on mame, you'll be best off just playing roms on your emulator, nuf said.

I think the MEGA-CD one sounds a little more catchy when compared to the cheesy SEGA CD one... :p

I don't really mind the cheesy voice acting....
But not censorship....;)

IIRC, the word "sex" or "sexy" had been written on one of the walls in the JPN version but I don't remember if this has been taken out of the US/EU version.

I don't have my US version anymore therefore I can't confirm this.

Only thing I can remember is that US version (Sega CD or GBA) doesn't have beer and wine bottle as pick up items.

I know JPN GBA version has everything, just like Mega CD version (except intro, which Jessica wears red dress instead of white bra).

Don't know why it's so hard to get an arcade-perfect port..........:envy:

Yeah I don't get why they don't have Poison/Roxy in the US GBA version... it's 2004 for crying out loud. :)

Liquid Snake posted the edited on but not the original:

I always thought the Sega CD was arcade perfect, I really didn't like the remixed tunes.

But I heard there's Final Fight on the very little known FM Towns Marty, that might be a last resort on finding out if it's arcade perfect or not.

Man...here's my 2 cents on this

Final Fight on Mega CD...damn i wish I could have seen it...all I had was the Sega CD verison

Sonic CD's soundtrack...I liked the American intro song...I just didnt really find the JPN that catchy...need to listen to it again..might change my opinion, but I doubt it..

Yet damn it...American censorship sucks..:(

Just try to find the new Athena and Friends based off SvC Chaos, it has like 8 pages of Poison getting screwed. That'll get it all out of your system at once. :)

Why dont you guys just download the Japanese or Euro Isos and change the region?

Or with sonic you can just switch out the MP3's to get the japanese music.

Easy stuff.

You know that the PC version of Sonic CD is out, you can usually find it at retail stores in the value software section bundle with other computer versions of Sonic or other Sega games. I played the Japanese one a few years ago actually on the PC, but never played it on the Sega CD so I don't know if the music is still different or not.

And for Final Fight there's always emulators to get the perfect version, and there's no shame in having the rom if you own one version of the game.

It's not legal, but there's no shame. :)

Uh, Japanese version of the Sonic cd is way better than the US version, with the exception of one future stage.....

In Final Fight one other important thing they censor IS THE SHIT YOU GET FROM THE BARRELS...Fuck me, I loved the Idea of punching over a pile of tires and finding a flask of JD, downing it, and going back to kicking ass...theres also 3 different cans of beer, 1 keg, and prolly some other drinks I'm missing....

Sega cd (US version) replaces this stuff with shit like bottled water, soft drink, milk, etc....total bullshit...please stick with the Jap verison if you can get it, isos or otherwise...

I'm with you on the remixed stuff. I like the original midis :)

Final Fight was never released for the Marty, but I think it was ported to the sharp x68000.
