You wouldn't believe the number of people embarassed to ask for Ikaruga because they were unsure how to pronounce such a bizarre name. I had several calls when it first came out for the Dreamcast for "Radiant Silvergun 2", not from ignorance, but because it was usually prefaced by the persons half-assed attempt to say "Icka-roo-ga" or some variant and then trail off like I was going to laugh at them.

I just say "IKA' Ruuuuga" and anyone who tries to correct me get's the evil eye and me pointing at the them to "Shee it!". They can hot breath about how I say something behind my back later for all I care. *Some son ova' bitch tried to tell me a different way of pronouncing it once, then I asked him to pronounce a myriad of Japanese names, companies and what not. Bastid couldn't pronounce worth a shit. Fucker thought just because he watched some Subtitled anime he could walk on the same street as me? "Don't think so." He couldn't even say "Rally" the way the Japanese Pronounce it.. "Raaahlee" but the bastid kept saying "Raly". {This had to do with the character Rally Vincent from Gunsmith Cats BTW}. Told him to go home and re-watch the damn tapes and best recognize, cause if he did that dance with me again I'd kick some shit.

Never had a problem with a fuck like that since, as enough people were listening at that particular Game Stop one evening. So anyhow that's my story.

Ok i'll admit it. When i bought Ikaruga for my GCN i just pointed to the game in the display case and said something to the effect of "that shooter, the one that starts with an I, thats what i want."

I've always pronounced it IHkaruga like Nesagwa said earlier.

For the Dreamcast version I say eye-ka-rooga but the Gamecube version is deffo eee-ka-rooga.

I understand that the arcade version should be called something else entirely, but I've never met one :annoyed:

It's a type of sparrow.

To think of it, some of the enemies resemble some small birds or insects.

E (like the letter "e")

Ka (like Kahn)

Roo (like Kangaroo)

Ga (like, God damn it)

I can't belive we have so many JPN lovers here, and yet so few of which that know a damn about anything of it.

Yeah, it is pretty surprising. Japanese culture interested me enough to find pronounciations for the language. Well, and I have relatives.
