After extensively playing the painkiller demo (3 levels) I can say that this game is deffinitely for any serious sam player. They throw you in huge levels and throw hundreds of enemies at you at once from all different directions. They come from the roofs, the ramps, the coffins, the beams.. everywhere. You have to kill every enemy to progress. Although it is fun to just sit there and run around and shoot occasionally they put enemies in places you dont look so you have to go out of your way to find them and you cannot move on until everything is killed. There werent too many weapons but my favorite was the grappler/grider... it was most useful when dealing with 20+ enemies at once. The physics were spot on and so were the detailed environments. It was very gorgous to look at for a fps. One complaint though is that when faced in a big area with alot of enemies i hit some slowdown. Im running an AMD 3000+, 512 ddram, and an NVidia Geforce 5600 and i even tried to put it on lower settings and I still hit slowdown. Although it is only the demo you might need a pretty good computer to run it. I'm thinking of putting this on my list when it comes out in a few months.

Sounds cool. I definitely liked the Serious Sam series. I used to call it the Robotron of the next Century. Mainly because it pretty much IS. Serious Sam got my vote because it inherited the coolness of Robotron (in many of the same ways). So I'm game for a 3rd level inheritance. :) :) :) I'll have to check out the Painkiller demo, then.

It looks a bit "light"...

I loved SSAM 1&2 (especially the first one... huuuuuuuuuuge final boss :)) but... after seeing Doom III (the graphics mood not details), Half Life 2, FarCry Demo and to a lesser extend MAx Payne 2 this one is not fancy for a PC...

it s a no for me... if i want Sam action i ll play the real deal :)

I know a game is not about graphics, but to tell the truth even graphically i prefer the old SAM so...

btw talking about screenshots of pain killer, i ve not dled the demo

Man, Painkiller is a blast. Did the DL this morning and I've been playing all day. Great old school FPS action.

I really like the games visual presentation. They've pretty much nailed the creepy aura that I loved so much about Doom 1 and 2 and managed to make it better.

I think I'm gonna have to buy it when it comes out.

I just downloaded the demo today and haven't had a chance to play it. But I'm glad to hear that people compare this to the SS games. I absolutely LOVED SS:FE and SS:SE, on the PC and surprisingly, the XBox version was incredible. I played the XBox version for a LONG time before I finally beat the game. Pure action FPS games are a blast, and the Serious Sam games are perfect examples (with some great humor and cool weapons to boot).

I'll be checking out Painkiller and posting my opinions later . . . but I only have a P4 1.8 with GeForce 3 at home, 1GB DDR RAM, so I hope it runs OK . . . :annoyed:

Well... confirmed.... it s not that pretty to me. The engine looks impressive on the paper and the physics implementation is verry good but in action the polycount doesn t seem so high (looks enclave-ish to me).

Ho~ well it s still fun anyway but i think i m waiting too much for HL2... I am quite fed up with FPS to tell the truth. Farcry managed to wow me with some verry nice effects and AI, not this one. It lacks the Serious fun factor IMO (except the nvidia the way it s meant to be played... which is launched even with my radeon lol).

Now, if there could be a rainbow 6 with that engine i wouldn t be against :)

just my own opinion though, blah blah.
I couldn t be so wrong with the screenshots, nvidia and official sites usually don t post ugly captures and i didn t find them fancy.

Btw, i think there won t be any problem on a 1.8GHz and GeForce 3, this game is far below PC complexity of nowadays (as i said, enclave-ish). It s good to see a game this smooth btw, gives me the feeling to be back in Hexen.

[edit: FSAA issue solved by itself]
