Well you have many things to way when you ask this.

1st what type of games are you into...I'm assuming you know the flagship products of snk are fightors and some action games(KoF,SS,Metalslug). If you like those then this system might be for you.

2nd are you in for collecting or for the games...becuase the market has gone up in price alot latly due to more and more collectors selling things for high prices.

3rd and finally whats yer budget here your option for any budget. from most expensive to least.

I.Neo Geo Home System(AES)
expect to pay 180-300 for one depending on condition. and games run from 10-5000 a piece(5000 being incredibily rare games like Kizuna Tag battle euro) but new games (king of fighter 2000,2001(when it comes out),metalslug 3,and senkugo 3) will run you around around $300 us dollars. This the most expensive but the most collectable.

II. Neo Geo MVS
This buying a real neo geo arcade machine although the intial cost is more the game cost is far cheaper. Expect to pay about 380-500 for a good one-slot system and other variton cost more. The mvs takes a bit more technical knowledge but the experience in unrivaled at least in my eyes. The game become muych cheaper after they have been out a bit(A YEAR)greaat and realitivly recent games can be had for 50-200 and older for even less.

III.
Final way is the neo geo cd(or cdz) which is a system that uses cd's instead of carts...this system is relativly cheap and game are cheaap 10-90 and the system can be had for i belive under 200(i'm not sure though). The only problem is they not longer port games to it(stopped after king of fighters 99) and well to but it lightly...the load times are kinda a drag.

Recap
I.expect to pay around 300-400 for AES system with one newer game.

II.expect to pay around 400-500 for a MVS system with a good game.

III. expect to pay around 230 ish for a good cd system(more for the cdz which is rarer)and a good game.

Hope that helps and welcome to the world of neo-geo.

Hell, yes !!! every $$$ you'll put in is worth it.

It will change your gamer life and will open your eyes. Maybe XBOX have more polygons - but fuck polygons. Power without mastery is nothing.

Long live to 2D and our sweet Neo - welcome :D

I'm sure many of the people in this forum are game collectors on a much larger scale than just the neo. I know I am. I own so many different systems it's not funny, now I will admit there are a few I don't have but in comparing my Neo to every other system with just the few games I have on it, it definately wins.

Yeah hands down, no other system out there can beat the Neo. If it's pure gameplay your looking for you cannot go wrong.

*sniff* That is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. That is the most eloquent argument against next gen console I have ever heard.

I bought an AES recently, and going to buy a cab soon. It's just great.

The funny thing is that when the Neo was, techincally speaking, the most powerful system on the market I didn't really care for it too much, except for the Sam Sho games. Now that the system is "archaic" it's the best system I have. It just makes all the newer systems look that much worse. I guess I just miss the good old days.

I had a choice last week: to get a crappy XBOX or to buy my KOF2001. I wasn't thinking too much and my choice was already done - NEOGEO :D

Do yourself a favor, and go MVS from the get-go.
Don't listen to the neurotic collector clowns that plague this forum. Grab a cab (or Sigma or SuperGun) and enjoy all the best the Neo world has to offer.

I got my cab siting in the living room, waiting for the 4 slot board. Neo CD, hmm, didn't play it before. I was told the loading time was a hell. Well, you can start with AES home system if you like.

...and prepare to sit and wait at least six months or longer until a new KoF or MS MVS kit drops in price if you don't have serious $$$...

I'm finally getting a Neo and I can tell you that I can't wait. This is the only major system I'm missing and it's the one I've wanted most. I'm going AES all the way baby! <img src="graemlins/glee.gif" border="0" alt="[Glee]" />

I got my 25" cab, and play at least 4 hrs a day. I like AES too, but it's my backup system. The image is not comparable to RGB. Go for it if you can find one locally.

The aes is the best way to go if you dont have the room for a stand up cab. i wish i had the room b/c then i would get a cab, but seeing i live in a 3rd floor apartment bymyself, i can really put it anywhere. i wish i could. but i have had neo Cd and Cd-z. the older games arent that bad for loading times, but the newer good games like ss3,4 metal slug etc have so many fucking load time that i traded mine away for a Gamecube and kept my aes cart system. i will never trade that way i love it to much.
