I own a dedicated MK2 cab. One of my favorite games of all time.
Anyone know how to pull off the fatality glitches in MK2 v2.1?
if you mean the Babality glitches... I'm all over this one
Revision 2.1 of MK2 was the first version to contain the Babalities and Friendships. And apparently they hadn't thoroughly tested them out before shipping the version out to arcades... basically, when you do a Babality, the character immediately goes into their win pose... yet for some inexplicable reason, you can "interrupt" that and do a special move, ANOTHER Babality, or even a Friendship. Fatalities never worked with the exception of one.
If you do a special move, it can end up having hilarious consequences. If you're using Sub-Zero you can freeze the baby! It turns into ice and everything, and then when the ice ends, the baby disappears completely. If you do Raiden's Torpedo Push, you will make the "normal" body reappear and will push them back. Same thing for Jax's "Gotcha" grab. But the majority of special moves when done to a baby simply makes the baby disappear off the screen (a term someone coined as an "Abortionality"). But I find it more amusing to do something like Kitana's fan lift, which raises the baby up into the air and THEN makes it disappear.

The most infamous special move to do after a Babality (it even got mentioned in GamePro) was Baraka's Blade Slice. Once the rapid blades kicked in to hack up the baby... the game would reset. Haha!
Doing the Babality motion multiple times was how the glitch was originally discovered around here, Baraka's Babality motion was f, f, f + HK and someone did it by tapping Forward and hitting High Kick a bunch of times even after the Babality had been done. Doing multiple Babalities will make more babies appear on the screen... but instead of making a duplicate, it's usually a Kung Lao (?) baby that appears. When multiple babies are made, one will often be a "bright" sprite and others will be "shadowed" along with the rest of the background.
Babality - Friendship combinations are nothing major, it's just a funny "combo" to do. Especially if you've done multiple Babalities.
Now, the only Fatality/Babality glitch I remember there being is for Mileena. She had a Fatality that was done by holding HK near the opponent and releasing... and her Babality motion was Down, Down, Down + HK. If you did the Babality motion right next to the opponent, often both would come out at once for some reason. What would happen is the opponent's dazed body would stay "frozen" on the screen and not move, and the baby would appear. When Mileena "sucks up" the baby, it would start to shake, and then reappear hovering by her shoulder. She would then of course do the animation where she spits out the bones, but the baby just remains floating there on the shoulder of their original dazed body. It's a very strange sight to behold.
Also, if you use Shang Tsung and morph into someone, and then do their Babality, you will immmediately morph back to Shang Tsung and can start walking around. But for some reason, when Shang morphs back he's actually "floating" a small distance off the ground, and will remain floating until you move him. Once you stop moving him, he would end up falling to the ground on his back. Just another strange thing that makes no sense whatsoever.
I really do think this is one of the funniest and coolest glitches to ever grace a video game. We got a big kick of it around here and stopped playing Vs. matches in favor of playing against the CPU just to try out various special moves during Babalities just to see what would happen. They were truly hilarious times. Then Midway ruined the fun with the Revision 3.1 chips, and I could never enjoy the game as much after that. Seriously. That glitch singlehandedly gave the game a reason to play against the CPU for once. It just wasn't as much fun to play the game normally any more, and when every arcade had upgraded to the newest version, I was upset that I would probably never again get to enjoy all the hilarity that Midway unknowingly bestowed upon this version.

All I can say is, thank god for MAME.
and that is everything you ever wanted to know about the awesome Babality glitch of MK2 rev 2.1. I used to have some screenshots up of a lot of the glitches, but I lost my primary webspace. I will try to get them up elsewhere later if anyone is interested in seeing them.
