I'm a huge Mortal Kombat fan. I followed the series from the first game to Deadly Allience. So, any other MK fans?

1 was okay, 2 was awesome, 3 was blah, 4 was bleh, and DA was pretty good.

Tournament Edition was okay, too. Yeah, I've played that.

Played the hell out of MK2 for the SNES back in the day.

Tried to get into MK Trilogy for the PS but I just couldn't do it.

I own a dedicated MK2 cab. One of my favorite games of all time.

Anyone know how to pull off the fatality glitches in MK2 v2.1?

At one time I did like MK, MK2 being my favorite, but I go back and play it now and just UGH! The game just doesn't do it for me anymore. I'll stick to my SS2, FFS, and SF2 for old school fighting.

I really liked the first mortal kombat. I remember my friend renting it and all of us crowding around his genesis and watching the blood.

Deadly Allience was good. i played it for a little while, I really like some of the concepts, also it was fun 2 player. It came out at a nice time. Everyone had kinda had enough of Tekken 4 and VF4 and it was something new.

I think DA was exciting because it was a non japanese fighting game that was decent. You can tell a lot of design went into the combo system and overall quality of the game.

Too bad it hasnt been released in japan.... Hopefully theyll make another one. I think itll be good.

I am a really big MK fan, I love all of them, but my favorite is MK2. I am trying to get the board, but I haven't had any luck finding a MK2 board, so is there anyone out there willing to sell me one.

MK2 is a great fighter, but it does get boring... I always have liked MK1, though. Something about the atmosphere.

I'm great at MK1, but I just couldn't keep up with MK2, because I was too concentrated on SFII:CE at the time. Too much memorization involved with MK games for me.

I've played MK Trilogy on N64, its awesome I think, a great selection of characters and all the great gameplay is present as well. Definitely worth picking up. Nice Graphics too :)

On a related note, Ultra Vortek for Jaguar is every bit as good as MK1 imho.

I dig 3, am in love with 2, am kosher with 1, offer 4 as an alternative to a human sacrifice(meaning I hate it), and only got the satisfaction of drooling over the chicks in 5.

MK 2 = :multi_co: :buttrock:

I thought MK1 was a really great game when it came out - very innovative and all that stuff. But it didn't age too well, mostly because of its one dimensional gameplay.

MK2 was definitely the pinnacle of the series - one of my all-time favorites

MK3/ultimate was pretty decent I thought - a little frantic but still pretty good.

MK4 is where I lost interest - not really sure if it was because my interest in games in general was waning or because the game just blew chunks. It was probably a little of both, however.

Haven't played deadly alliance yet, but I'll probably rent it just give a nod to the old school. Well, that's like my 347th nod, actually.

Wow somebody mentioned Ultra Vortek. What a rip-off of MK. And what a watered-down sloppy mess of a game that truly is/was. I own a Jaguar, and actually think of it as a quality system, but even I can justify the poor quality of Ultra Vortek. The game is just pathetic. I don't even know why it was created.

if you mean the Babality glitches... I'm all over this one :D

Revision 2.1 of MK2 was the first version to contain the Babalities and Friendships. And apparently they hadn't thoroughly tested them out before shipping the version out to arcades... basically, when you do a Babality, the character immediately goes into their win pose... yet for some inexplicable reason, you can "interrupt" that and do a special move, ANOTHER Babality, or even a Friendship. Fatalities never worked with the exception of one.

If you do a special move, it can end up having hilarious consequences. If you're using Sub-Zero you can freeze the baby! It turns into ice and everything, and then when the ice ends, the baby disappears completely. If you do Raiden's Torpedo Push, you will make the "normal" body reappear and will push them back. Same thing for Jax's "Gotcha" grab. But the majority of special moves when done to a baby simply makes the baby disappear off the screen (a term someone coined as an "Abortionality"). But I find it more amusing to do something like Kitana's fan lift, which raises the baby up into the air and THEN makes it disappear. :D The most infamous special move to do after a Babality (it even got mentioned in GamePro) was Baraka's Blade Slice. Once the rapid blades kicked in to hack up the baby... the game would reset. Haha!

Doing the Babality motion multiple times was how the glitch was originally discovered around here, Baraka's Babality motion was f, f, f + HK and someone did it by tapping Forward and hitting High Kick a bunch of times even after the Babality had been done. Doing multiple Babalities will make more babies appear on the screen... but instead of making a duplicate, it's usually a Kung Lao (?) baby that appears. When multiple babies are made, one will often be a "bright" sprite and others will be "shadowed" along with the rest of the background.

Babality - Friendship combinations are nothing major, it's just a funny "combo" to do. Especially if you've done multiple Babalities.

Now, the only Fatality/Babality glitch I remember there being is for Mileena. She had a Fatality that was done by holding HK near the opponent and releasing... and her Babality motion was Down, Down, Down + HK. If you did the Babality motion right next to the opponent, often both would come out at once for some reason. What would happen is the opponent's dazed body would stay "frozen" on the screen and not move, and the baby would appear. When Mileena "sucks up" the baby, it would start to shake, and then reappear hovering by her shoulder. She would then of course do the animation where she spits out the bones, but the baby just remains floating there on the shoulder of their original dazed body. It's a very strange sight to behold.

Also, if you use Shang Tsung and morph into someone, and then do their Babality, you will immmediately morph back to Shang Tsung and can start walking around. But for some reason, when Shang morphs back he's actually "floating" a small distance off the ground, and will remain floating until you move him. Once you stop moving him, he would end up falling to the ground on his back. Just another strange thing that makes no sense whatsoever. :D

I really do think this is one of the funniest and coolest glitches to ever grace a video game. We got a big kick of it around here and stopped playing Vs. matches in favor of playing against the CPU just to try out various special moves during Babalities just to see what would happen. They were truly hilarious times. Then Midway ruined the fun with the Revision 3.1 chips, and I could never enjoy the game as much after that. Seriously. That glitch singlehandedly gave the game a reason to play against the CPU for once. It just wasn't as much fun to play the game normally any more, and when every arcade had upgraded to the newest version, I was upset that I would probably never again get to enjoy all the hilarity that Midway unknowingly bestowed upon this version. :( All I can say is, thank god for MAME. ;)

and that is everything you ever wanted to know about the awesome Babality glitch of MK2 rev 2.1. I used to have some screenshots up of a lot of the glitches, but I lost my primary webspace. I will try to get them up elsewhere later if anyone is interested in seeing them. :)

Always liked the idea of fatalities, and freaked like everyone else did upon seeing one the first time, but overall I never FELT the Mortal Kombat franchise at all, to me the damn characters played waaaaaaaaay to stiff, no fluid movement, and the Genny versions with John Tobias popping up every now and then screaming "Toasty!" just made me wanna go Norman Bates. I think I liked Killer Instinct alot better than the MK games, but that's not saying much either. :oh_no:

...just not my cup of spiked coffee.

Nice. I just got one myself off eBay. I have great memories of this in the arcade. Mine was converted to a UMK3 but I'm making it back to MK2.

Check eBay. They always have them on there. Just make sure you get the sound board along with the main board. Also, it shold come with 2 cables that go between the sound board and main board (1 to provide power and the other to transfer data). Without both cables, you won't have sound.

i like mortal kombat 2 a lot. it's one of my favorite fighters of all time. i enjoyed mortal kombat 3 but it didn't hit me as well as part 2 did. i've never played a mortal kombat game after the third game, though, so i can't comment on the rest of the series.

To me, MK1 is to MK2 as SS1 is to SS2

MK1 made me like fighting games.
SS1 made me appreciate fighting games.

But MK2 and SS2 were each so much better.

I honestly never did get into any of the Mortal Kombat games. I did play part 1 and 2 to see what the fuss was about, but when you look past the blood and fatalities, the actual fighting engine is pretty meh.

The mid-1990's were all about Street Fighter 2, World Heroes and KOF for me.
