Didn't/cannot VOTE. *I refer to ALL game systems by their Japanese original names even reffering to the American counterpart. Thus I call an SNES a Super Famicom, or Super Fami.

i call it Super Nintendo... i am American and therefore that is the name i know it by the best. and while i am on the subject i want to praise the super nintendo for being such a great console. i absolutely had more fun with my super nintendo than any other system. sure i love all my consoles, but there was something about the super nintendo and its games that really made a lasting impression. sure it doesn't come close to the neo in terms of graphics, but the super nintendo had a killer library of games, rpg's, shooters, beat 'em ups, racing, fighting, platform... super mario world is still one of my all-time favorite games, seriously that game was mad fun.

super nintendo = :buttrock:

rock on old friend, rock on...

What's wrong with prefering to call a system by it's original name? I hate the name TurboGrafx 16, to me it's PC-Engine... Super Fami sounds better than SNES, MEGA DRIVE envokes more power than "Genesis". *It's just my preference nothing wrong with that, if you like calling Japanese systems by their Americanized terms that's your thing. *Well there is one case I like the rename better. I don't care for saying SG-1000 Mark III and call it "Master System".

I think the guy was talking about those people who are so into something that they want to act like total idiots over miniscule details that otherwise nobody would give two shits about. Personally, I don't see you being like that, but that statement did sound like something those kinds of people would say.

Myself, I called it a Super Nintendo. I did own a Famicom and Super Famicom in the late 80s/early 90s, so these are two different systems to me. If me and my buds were going to play some FC or SFC, it was to play some weird Japanese games that our buddy James would have to translate for us and/or games that hadn't been released in the U.S. yet. If we were gonna play some Super Nintendo, it was to play American games.

WTF??

Anyway, it depends who i'm talking to and in which context....which is usually Super Nintendo as I live in England, Super Famicom games I would talk about as being simply "Japanese".

Though obviously If i was to make post here about say, Chibi Chara Wars or similar It is a Super Famicom game foor not having a western release....

The same can be said for games that I was fimilar with first in a certain territory say Golden Fighter and Dead Dance, both which I knew as Japanese games before their American releases.

But.....it really doesnt matter.

I call it by many names, usually depending on who I'm talking to. It all depends on what name they're most familiar with.

Super Nintendo
SNES (rarely, these days)
Super Nes

and for all the people I grew up with who were fellow nintendophiles, I just call it the "super" out of habit. We were fanboys back then, and to us there were only two systems, the Nintendo and the Super.

I'm more "enlightened" now. :D

In YOUR sig, the proper term would be YOU'RE (as in YOU ARE), not YOUR.

You do realize thats a cropped image of the famous "hot dog" ads SNK ran in the early 90s as their first advertising campaign, yes? Its not his fault.

Haha, this is my total favorite. Sort of like if the world of the nineties was populated by half human, half serpent people.

Ah the US/Japan gap eh? Let's put it like this, for me it goes in several scenarios.
>If I'm talking to another gamer on my knowledge level of games, domestic & import, I say "SNES" if I mention an American game, or "Super Famicom" when I'm talking about JP games. I keep the terms in the region brackets.

>if I'm talking about a Super Famicom game to somebody that don't know much about imports, I first say "super nintendo......but it's Japanese". that way it'll save the embarassment of being surrounded by "wtf is he talking about?" looks.
