Sorry but nothing beats Biohazard, Alone in the Dark may have started the genre but Biohazard defined it!

RE is the best i suppose IMO, though Mansion of Hidden Souls is an all time favourite game of mine, reason the Saturn is such a badass bitch...

Hellnight on PSX is pretty cool/different, worth a try;)

Vote Silent Hill. The radio and the fog create a real sense of anxiety and danger, and I like the convoluted storyline.

Resident Evil I adore to death, yet if I want to scare myself mentally...it's Silent Hill..the great thinker game..why do I call it that?

Don't you ever just sit there...look at this thing wiggling...moaning..screaming..as it comes at you...and your mind cannot create an ideal of "what the hell is that"...THAT is true fear...

I am a HUGE Biohazard fan, and that was the series that started it all... but unfortunately Biohazard is no longer scary. Fun, but not scary.

...Silent Hill is however.

I agree for the most part, but REmake was one of the scariest games ever. RE0 wasn't to scary at all though.

clock tower fan here. that game is as twisted as silent hill but you're just so helpless that it makes the game so much better

BioHazard is truly entertaining, but nothing beats the atmosphere created by Silent Hill.

Silent Hill, it's not only freaky but it's emotionally draining.

Fatal frame would be second..considering it's based on a true story. that's freaks me out.

My favorite is actually House of the Dead, maybe that doesn't count since its shooter but it is a horror game, and the idea is to survive, right? So i voted for Silent Hill because its damn creepy. But House of the Dead 1 & 2 are so badass I love 'em so much. I own them both, the original is on my Saturn with 2 lightguns and the sequel if for my Dreamcast, which had 2 lightguns, but my Dreamcast is faulty and malfunctioned and I think Sega was bleeding so much red ink by the time they built Dreamcast that it was done cheaply and therefore not up to the standards of the beautiful Sega Saturn system. God how I love my Saturn.

It's not a real story. It's not even a real urban legend.

The game designers just made it up then claimed it was real, like the Blair Witch producers did.

I voted Resident Evil, since it's given me the most entertainment out of the lot, even if I just include the first game only.

But the scariest game I ever played is still Fatal Frame. I simply CANNOT play that game with the lights out.

Really? Do you have an article or anything that you read that from? Blair Witch sucked anyway, it wasn't scary. So that doesn't count ;)

For me- the best single moment in Survival horror was the first section of RE 0. In the train. It really is, to this day- perhaps the most perfect combination of GFX, sound and atmosphere ever in a single horror title.

But overall, RE 2 is my favorite. It consumed me when I was living in the San Fernando valley back in '97. It gave me a month or so of pure, unadulterated pleasure. It was the best thing ever for me on a next-gen console- only rivaled by Castlevania:SOTN.

I'd say that RE 3 and Code: Veronica were also up there. Silent Hill 3 was also very good. (didn't finish it though...)

I really liked Eternal Darkness and Fatal Frame too- but the George Romero-loving guy in me will prolly forever ally me with the RE series.
