Here's a big poll. Which one is overall best? If yours isn't listed here, click "other," and mention it. Give a brief explanation.

This is very tough, but I'd have to say River City Ransom. While it may be kiddish and vanillia in terms of character designs, the atmosphere created in the game with all the malls and the backgrounds is astounding. The open-ended gameplay and character building just makes the package that more sweet. If only the 2nd one on the super famicom got translated here in the states...

Even tough I like Sengoku, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and others, for me, Final Fight still remains the best.

Maybe I'm biased, or it's just nostalgia, but Guy, Cody and Haggar simply own this scene IMO. :p

havent played a few of those like final fight and sengoku but some of my best gaming memories come from streets of rage 2.(easily in my top5 genesis games) I think streets of rage 1 and 3 are not in the same timezone as 2, not even close.

Alien Vs Predator is king. Coming in a close second for me would have to be the Turtles series (mostly for Turtles in Time). But dude, why no option for the Dungeons and Dragons CPS2 games. Those are probably my #3 pick!

My anime freak buddy had this around '96, but sacreligiously sold it, heinous because ive never seen it for sale again, tho obviously romz soften the blow;)

Fans of Nekketsu blah blah games really need to check this out, its nigh on one of the series IMO, though by Banpresto, the music freaaking OWNZ. If anyone can find the SFC original I will love them forever.

What?!?! No Double Dragon!?!:very_ang:

I've never had as much fun with a beat em up than with the Double Dragon series. IMO no other series gave the player as much variety and control over how they beat the crap out of their opponents.

I found the final fight/streets of rage formula to be so boring. screw having one "attack" button, and give me separate, independent kick and punch buttons any day.

granted, i haven't played a LOT of the games on that list, but if they are anything like the formula Final Fight, Streets of Rage, etc... then I stand by my comment.

BARE KNUCKLES series, though River City Ransom is a close second, with Final Fight in third place. *At least IMO.

Double Dragon is great, but really, there is no reason for Viewtiful Joe to be omitted either.

Viewtiful Joe definately deserves a place on that list. I may not have the fondest memories of Viewtiful Joe since its new, however the 2.5D is reason enough to love it while the game dynamics totally re-define 2d beat-em-ups. Nostalgia tells me Final Fight, however my gut tells me Viewtiful Joe. Its a great, challenging fun ride.

Ahhh fuqn Guardian Heroes, dude...sweet assed combos, a coloseum with a roster of 40+ chars/badguys to compete with, decent fighting game elements present, CPU controlled alies, and a fuqn ninjaesque dude who jumps across the screen with his flying kick: brings back the bliss I felt when playing Double dragon 3 with Ranzou where no one can touch you....

Streets of Rage 1 and 2. So many great memories. The first one was the first game i'd ever finished in co-op with my long-gone brother.

Write-in Nomination for: Gaia Crusaders

HOWEVER.

Streets of Rage 2 is the king above that entire list.

With most people some of the older games hold some sort of sentimental value.

But Dynasty Warriors is my favourite. 42 characters, character interaction, war cry's and historical level designs. Plus being able to swing a weapon once and see 30 surrounding enemies fly into the air is orgasmic!!!
