How important is it to have the spine card for your games?

I am distraught - there is a great shmup up on one of the auction house - and a rare one at that. Unfortunately it does not come with a spine card and because of this it is tearing my soul apart.

The shmup (which will remain nameless for my own benefit) is even more "rare" than Radiant Silvergun and does not come up very often especially in the excellent condition it is in.

But the game IS very expensive..

What you do?

Buy it, upgrade later if you can.

Personally I never buy imports, so its never an issue.

If it bothers you that much, i'd suggest a new hobby.

I would love to buy the domestic version but it never made it to America..

Oh I know there are import games that never came out here, I just meant that I never got into buying imports at all, always seemed like I didn't even have enough cash for domestic stuff.

The spine card is nice to have but not the be all and end all. As long as everything else is there I don't see the problem.

if they aren't going to keep the spine card they may as well throw away the whole game.

the spine card is VERY important. without it the game is incomplete.. imagine buying a car and the seats are missing.. would you still want it in that condition? no!

so all you people out there that do not have spine cards.. keep your games to yourself or destroy them.

I think you answered your own question...I mean, if you're already tripping out so badly over it I guess you really need that spine card.

Personally, there's certain things I don't really hold in that high importance. Spine cards, advertisements, registration cards, boxes for systems....these things I don't really care about.

Look at it this way, the absence of that spine card is going to drive down the price, at least by a little bit....is it worth paying like 40 bucks for a spine card?

I think a better analogy would be "imagine buying a car and not having it's original manual in the glove box!!"

Sorry are you serious?

I mean saying its important to you is one thing, but saying if they don't have the spine card they may as well destroy the game... a bit extreme isn't it?

You don't need the spine card to play the game.

Spine cards mean dick, really. Unless there's real cool art on there like some imports have. Then I could maybe see wanting to make an effort of getting one with the spine, but otherwise.. who really gives a shit.

Spine Cards for disc format games are cool and all, but sense it's a JAPAN ONLY thing, I really couldn't care less. Of course if I get one with a game I'll fold it like so that the instruction booklet slides into it and the front part of the Spine card is viewable in the jewel case, covering part of the instruction booklet artwork. To me it's just not that big a deal, but I could see where it might be for others.

In the days of the PCE SCD, Mega CD, and into the Saturn/PSX era, I ALWAYS threw out my spine cards, and I *only* had imports, no domestic games. I never really started keeping them around until the late 90s, when I started selling more games, and people would constantly ask after the spine cards.

Even now, I really don't give a shit. If I know that I'll never sell a particular game (DC Ikaruga or Saturn Policenauts, for example), I'll toss that spine card away in a second. If I think at some future point I might sell it, I keep it around.

The reason that I like my games to have the spinecards and to be mint serves a a greater purpose than just from the collector standpiont , it also helps me hold back from making a game purchace ...lets face it ....if some of us werent picky we would be buying every game we saw and spending money like a dateless boy on prom night at a bordello .

So being picky actually helps me financially .......I buy less because its harder to find games in collectors condition .

It goes both ways. You'll spend more on 2 games than another dude who isn't picky will on 5 games.

Jesus christ who gives a shit!?

Will the game play better with the spine card? NO!

If you are getting it to play then you wouldn't give a fuck if it came as disc only and wrapped in bubble paper.

Goddamn collectors are the reasons games cost so much as it is.

I do agree with retrogamer though it helps me in a different way, if I only did loose mvs carts, I could easily buy 20 carts in a day, but I wouldn't play any of them, they would pile up and get no play. So I pay a lot for a game, play the hell out of it, then another game will pop up.
