I am seriously waiting for this game and snake eater to come out. I know when snake eater comes out, but not resident evil 4. Anyone have a clue?

Brand new details about the storyline, and a 1st person mode. What's this? No more zombies? Get the full scoop...

The latest issue of Game Informer has come off the press, and with it a full unveiling of Resident Evil 4. Keep in mind that this information is reliable, but we haven't gotten confirmation from Capcom regarding any of the following.

Perhaps the most surprising revelation was that the game must be viewed in widescreen. If your TV doesn't support 16:9 ratio, you'll have to play the game letterboxed. HDTV users should be happy to hear that the title supports 480 progressive scan.

Along with the aforementioned 1st person view, there are a couple of other new 3rd person options, which keep the camera very close to Leon. Basically, with one of the angles, Leon fills the entire left portion of the screen, making it control almost like it were in the first person, even though it isn't.

**WARNING: STORYLINE SPOILERS**

Resident Evil 4 takes place in 2006, a full four years after the events of RE2. Leon is hired by the president to guard his daughter. Before he can take the job, she is kidnapped and taken to a village in South America where all the villagers hunt him down in an eerie trance. These villagers replace the traditional RE zombies, and act much smarter and more like humans, although they apparently still thirst for human brains. There will be women and children villagers as well, and the line between who is safe and who isn't will be much more blurred than it has been in the past. It appears that the Umbrella Corporation doesn't play a role in the title at all. When we asked wht Umbrella Corp. is not participating here, it was because they have ended their contract with Capcom back in Outbreak.

*END STORYLINE SPOILERS*

Several other misc. details about the gameplay were revealed as well:

No more door animations or pre-rendered cutscenes. Everything in the game is done in-engine, with very little load time.

Enemies react when shot in different areas of their body. For example, shooting an enemy in the foot will cause him to hobble.

The new villager zombies come armed with sickles, axes, pitchforks, and other sharp objects, all of which can be thrown at you. With timing and skill these objects can be shot out of the air.

The title features an action button. It might be used to quickly close the gap between a baddie and kick them, or push a ladder over to prevent being followed, etc.

One later level bathes the player in complete darkness, with only the moon occasionally illuminating your surroundings.

The enemies in the game are smarter than previous Resident Evils, and get smarter as you progress. They will attempt to lead you into traps, and try other more human-like actions.

The overall feeling Resident Evil 4 portrayed was much more frantic that previous entries in the series. It looks to be a much more intense-playing title, if nothing else. The game is slated for a fall 2004 release.

If all the story and gameplay details listed there are true. Then why call it Resident Evil 4?

The only thing that says Resident Evil about that is Leon... :( I mean im not opposed to change, but this sounds kinda :spock:

(This is not meant towards you Basley)

But wtf?
RE2 takes place in 1998, to 2006? that is 8 years.

Plus Leon is infected with the T-virus Play the GBC game RE:Gaiden to see why.

Also he is at the supposed to be finding a cure for his infection and has left for Umbrella's headquarters.

Plus the pictures have these Ghost that turn into whatever item they possess....

Someone wanna verify what I just babbled about?

From what I'be read, there WILL be zombies, but not obvious like RE zombies of old. For example, you could be talking to a local kid and Sudeenly, what do you know, he's out for your blood. Everything I've read on it soundsd cool though, and the next Game Informer will suppodely confirm many of the rumours on it, and probably strike downa few.

Supposedly Capcom made everyone who they showed the game to sign a non disclosure agreement. I don't know how long that was supposed to last though.

maybe they are like the zombies from 28 Days Later.

yeah I think your right Daigo. I just got the new issue of GameInformer with Leon on the cover. Man, resident evil 4 has some of the nicest graphics I 've seen in a while, and Leon looks a little older. This is going to be a great game:)

this either has to be a joke, or the worst idea EVAR. i swear capcom has lost it's touch since the dreamcast days, since code veronica and street fighter 3 came out, it's all gone down hill with the exception of capcom vs snk 2 and steel battalion.

and yes leon is infected with the t-virus in the RE storyline, and he was on his way to find umbrella HQ to wreck mothafuckers.

and i was gonna buy a cube for this too.

sounds like some cheesy movie script with leon thrown in so they can call it RE.

This game will blow all your minds, mark my words. And it happens to have some of the sickest graphics to date in a video game.

there are a bunch of pics over at magic box.. looking at them makes me think this is a resident evil that is actually worth owning.

EDIT according to ign:

It also confirms a 2004 release date for the game in the US and Japan and a 2005 debut in Europe.

so you would expect it to be late 2004 if europe is 05.

2005 for Europe? it won't see a PAL release then. I'm sorry, but the Cube will be all but dead by then over here. Our store has sold only 3 Cubes since Xmas. Which is a damn pity, but when you consider the next big game since mario kart is MGS:TTS, and that doesn't hit till April over here, somethings gotta give.

About RE4? to be honest, it sounds like a good idea, but why ruin the continuity of the series? Since 1998 we've been looking forward to Leon bringing down umbrella..it's liek they've decided to skip that whole part out.

That "news" sounds like as much of a sequel as Halloween 3.
