Tell me Neo fans, what is your opinion on 2D and 3D shoot-em-up games? Not FPS games, but rather games like Radiant Silvergun, Parodius, Galaga, and Blazing Lasers? Which rules all? Space MegaForce or Ikaruga? Musha or Gradius? Where does your heart lie in the valley of shooters? Let me hear it.

Something's missing here - no Cave or Psikyo games on the list? As my single favorite shmup of all time, I'd probably vote for ESP Ra.De.

Damn, since there's no Lords of Thunder, I'll have to settle for Mars Matrix. LoT owns my ass.

Lots of shit to blow up? check.

Eye candy? yup.

Difficulty? check.

Music? Hell yeah!

Gameplay? Booya!

Nice level up system, too.

Extremely tough question, voted Mars Matrix though.

Although Blazing Star is quickly becoming a favorite of mine as well.

I can't be the only one who loves Darius Gaiden. Not my favorite shooter of all time, but the only one on that list that I would call greatest of all time.

MUSHA ALESTE based off the selections present in this poll. But there are more than a few that should've been on it like...

Ray Xanber II
Soldier Blade
Blazing Star
Sengoku Blade (Ace II)
Gate of Thunder
Lords of Thunder
Layer Section
Macross 2036
Gynoug
Advanded Busterhawk GLEYLANCER

MERCENARY X99

I was about to vote for Ikaruga, but then I saw that it is the Game Cube version... Come on, it's a Naomi game and only the Dreamcast version should count.

This poll is missing too many games, like Thunder Force 4, Blazing Star and all the Strikers saga.

Blazing Star? Pulstar should be up there before Blazing Star. I wouldn't consider either a contender.

I concur. That list is a bit sad for all time best. Cave/Psikyo/Raizing shmups are head and shoulders above the rest. Cream of the crop.

I didn't vote, but if Guwange were on that list it'd get my vote.

I vowe to have this board in a CandyCab some day.

I picked MUSHA amongst the list but generally, this list while having good choices is very incomplete. Where's Thunderforce 3, 4, and 5? Grindstormer, Raiden DX, Twin Eagle???

And I'll never forget that you left out Pulstar, Blazing Star, Last Resort, Strikers 1945+ on a NEO site.

Had you put Thunderforce 4 on here, I would have voted for that.

I can tell you exactly why I don't. I haven't had the privelage of playing it yet. The closest I've come is watching a Mode7 replay.

It does look good though, I have to admit. I love the other two in the series and would probably feel the same way about '99.

Edit: Add yet another shmup that needs to be ported to a console badly ...

ex-aequo:
esp ra de, ikaruga, sexy parodius
so obviously ikaruga on your list

but, that is only with a technical point of view... else i would have said gradius since it is the shooter that made konami shooters what they are.

What he said.

I love Strikers 1945 II, can get enough of it. Psikyo is one of my fave shmup developers so I guess I would like Strikers 1945 III as well, but so far I've only seen screen shots, read reviews and developed a solid jealousy on those lucky bastards whose favorite arcade has the cab. :)

Naming my #1 shmup ever is so damn tough... my faves are Strikers 1945 II, ASO II, Border Down, R-Type 2 and Delta, Gaplus, Raiden 1 and 2 (arcade, PSX) and Raiden Trad (Genny), Giga Wing 2, Mars Matrix and home micro stuff like Uridium and Delta (C=64) or Hybris, Sidewinder, Silk Worm and Xenon 1/2 (Amiga). ETC...

Damn... too many fine games to pick a winnah...

Where is Rez and Bangia-O? Twinkle Star Sprites deserves a place too. Is Robotron a shooter?

Reading this thread, you know what pisses me off. That ESP Ra. De. and Guwange were never ported to a home system format

That really pisses me off :blow_top:
