Does anyone here like these games? I've seen screens of these games online and they look like pretty interesting brawlers. Are they any fun? Are the two radically different enough to advise the purchase of one over the other?

Yeah they are pretty different.

I dont play 1 much, but its basically Smash Bros. on a 3/4 view and supers based on the crystals you can pick up and steal from other characters.

Great games both of them.

(2 also has a bunch more characters)

Hell fuck yeah!

2 of the best games ever made, and radically different from each other!!

Probably the most different 2 games from the same series could be. Whenever I have people over, PStone 2 is always the game of choice. Hell, even my wife loves it, she plays it all the time.

Do yourself the biggest favor ever, and buy both of these fantastic games.

I don't understand why there hasn't been a 3rd title in the series yet, the GCN is the perfect platform for it. There have been quite a few Japanese Cube releases trying to fit the bill, but none of them are as good as Power Stone.

Power Stone=One of the best franchises ever marketed!!!!!!

yeah i really like both of them alot. 2 of my fav DC games.

part 1 graphically looks a bit nicer & the characters have a few more moves, but the stages are smaller & it's just 1 vs 1[either against CPU or another player].

part 2 though there can be 4 players[1P vs CPU2,3,4 - 1P & 2P vs CPU3,4 - etc..] and the levels are much bigger.. that plus it let's you choose what levels you want to play, the first game doesn't.

these games are also my nephew's favorite games.

I CONCUR! *Actually whole open ended fight around the area style is closer to what a fight would be like, which is why I always liked it. In a real "Brawl" you've usually got chairs and tables and all kinds of stuff in the way, and a fight takes all but anywhere from 8 to 20 seconds per person to inflict serious damage that ends the fight right there. I don't care if a person could conjure up a HAO SHOKOKEN... if I kick a man in his shin's and he's not a Muay Thai warrior, he's going down, as he comes head butt to the nose breaking it, as he tries to recover, a well placed punch shatters the collar bone or dislocates the shoulder.

OR...

feint a move, they go for it, break a man's leg from the bottom up so that the bone comes right out the leg, step on the wound, follow up with a punch to the sternum, slap both hands across both ears, then throw the guy into something like an arcade machine. Then go and step on his hand and break it.

FIGHT OVER!

heh, yeah.
aside from my martial arts & weight training background, i've practiced alot of brick breaking & pretty much could kill a person with 1 punch... so because of that[& what martial arts is supposed to teach you], i try my best to avoid confrontations & stay calm because i know if i let my anger get in the way and "duke-it-out"[so to say] with someone i'd most likely kill them.

Yep which is why I try to avoid fights myself. I don't back down cause I'm afraid for my well being, I'm afraid I might kill someone cause if forced to fight I WILL END IT IN 25 SECONDS FLAT, unless there's multiple people involved. I know several styles of marital arts myself but I just go to WIN, military SF training combined with good ole' fashioned "Fuck You Up" Street Fighting. Though my moves are Akido and Judo as far as throws go. To me the open ended nature of POWER STONE was the best part.

lol, that was the single most violent response I've seen in a gaming thread. Good stuff, though, I'm a pretty big martial arts fan and interested in the mano - a- mano action. Seeing another human physically dissect another is something to see.

Thanks to all the respones! Seems as if PS1 is univerally loved, so I'll start there.

GAME ON!

I love the Power Stone games. 3D pretty much, action is fast-paced, no slo-down, great graphics, fun multi-player value, not a lot of characters to choose from, and not the best storylines, but it is a refreshing fighting game, and definately something different.

I personally couldn't get enough of it when I first got it, early on in my Dreamcast days... I played it a lot, and everybody I played it with liked it a lot. It really can be an addictive game with buddies, or simply a quick, easy, pick it up and play game for single player fun.

Once again, sharp, cute graphics, lots of colors, speedy responsive gameplay, lack of many characters, kind of easy to beat the CPU, massive replay value when you have friends over. I recommend it.

I can't deal with the wonky perspective. I'd rather play Smash Brothers.

power stone will always be a special series to me. it was like the 3rd game i got for my import dreamcast, and it was the first Naomi to Dreamcast port, that was actually out 2 weeks after the Naomi release in Japan, just to think I was playing an arcade game that new was so cool. and the American Naomi kit didn't come out for 4 monthes after I had the import dc version, so that was cool too.

I remember fokkers courtyard stage floored me, the graphics were so good. the graphics still stand up to this day as well.
