I was looking over the online manual for the Rev 1 boards and here is the JAMMA pinout they have for it.

Now here I see no mention of a -5V and also there is this -2 and +2?

Can someone please explain this.

Does not need -5V and the 2 is for speaker 2.

Nope..It needs an additional +5V though..& Ground.
Connected with the extra molex connector.

I finally got my hands on a manual that came within the 4 units I bought..
I can't see the online manual to good on my computer a screen and it came out like crap when I printed it out..

Well shit all this time I could have been had my system up and running, I have been trying to get a proper power supply with -5V.

Yup..
For some reason I was thinking I needed the -5V also..
Though I have it on my Power supplies in both cabs.

Someone in some thread told me I needed a -5V hook-up..

It has to be in one of the old Hyper 64 threads..or in a PM..

I read it on the board somewhere...oh well it will be up and running tomorrow :)

That someone was me ;)

The -5V is not in the table, but it is assigned in the schematics of the Rev 1 manual. If I remember correctly, -5 goes to pins 5 and E.

And it is my understanding that you need the -5 for the sound portion of the rev 1 of the hyper 64 board. For rev 2, -5 is no longer required.

I plan on using the stero harness for audio...would I need the -5 then?

Chris do you have -5V going to yours? If not do you still get sound?

I would be very interested to see what is the final solution for a proper harness for the REV 1 boards. Once one is finalized, do you think you could make two of them for a fee for me? I really want to connect them to my MVS cabs.

If you are talking about the stereo harness that comes with the kit, it is only used to connect your board to the speakers directly.

To be honest with you when I set up my hyper 64 cabs, I did it from scratch. Therefore I carefully studied both the pin-out table and the schematics. And since the rev 1 board is very fragile when it is not receiving the right voltages, I played it save by making sure that it gets all the right voltages including the -5V.

Your rev 1 board may work fine without the -5, but I would not be surprised if it burned-up later on. That is the only complaint that I have about the rev 1 boards.

Rev 2 of the board fixes all the problems that rev 1 had, and it does not require -5.

If you are looking for a power supply with -5, just look at the ones the Real Bob Roberts has for sale at his site.

I'm using mine for a consolized type of setting. I have 2 jameco power supplies that together will have more than enough power even for -5v to make it work so at this point the -5V is going to be wired as well.

I don't want to burn it up and unfortunately I have only Rev 1 boards and don't really want to waste more cash on a Rev 2 so I will probably just wire it all up to play it safe.

Looking over the schematics it looks like it don't matter if the -5v is wired to 5 or E because they both meet.

I was about to go to sleep when I looked at the front of my manual and it says..

Power Requirements.

+5VDC..... 10 Amp Minimum
+12VDC....1 Amp Minimum
-5VDC.......1 Amp Minimum
.....................

I haven't messed around with any of the Hyper 64 boards I have.

I have 8 of them now..all REV 1s..:loco:

I've been into to many other projects lately..CPS2 stuff etc..

Hmmm.... I stand corrected.

Chris - I have a scan of the Rev1 manual but it is not very good. Any chance you could scan yours or send it to me to scan?

iirc the rev 1 needs the -5 volt or you wont have sound
the 2nd rev works without -5 volt i use a jameco psu for my
consolized board and it works

:spock:

Actually looking at the schematic it looks like BOTH pins 5 and E are connected to a common -5V source.

Same thing with pins 1 and A are connected to GND
Pins 2 and B are also connected to ground
Pins 3 and C are connected to +5V
Pins 4 and D are also connected to +5V
And Pins 6 and F are connected to +12V

question

forgive the somewhat noob question here...I ordered a cheap Hyper motherboard from videoconnect....hoping to run it on my Supernova. Is this even possible? I'm not terribly familiar with voltage settings, etc.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is possible to connect your Hyper 64 with your supergun.
Just make sure that you hook your power supply harness (should have come with the board) and hook it directly into your power supply.
