How much music are you looking to store?

I have Creative Nomad Zen Xtra that hold 30GB and I couldn't be happier. It costs less than an iPod and holds more. In terms of price, it can't really be beaten.

If you have a hard drive based MP3 player? Fuck no. If you are using an MP3 player that uses memory sticks or what have you, then yes.

As far as an iPod, I'm sure they are good quality and all, but the Creative (and just about ANY other company) offerings are cheaper and nearly as light weight. iPod is simply a status symbol type gadget. If there is only one thing Apple can do right, it's marketing. Considering HDD based MP3 players had been around quite a while before they offered theirs... it's all in how they market it as being "hip" to own.

Spend your money as you will. I have the Creative Zen Xtra, works well, boots up quick and has an easily replaceable (though still proprietary) battery.

You're also forgetting the ipod is sexy as hell. Most of the other mp3 players i've ever seen are bastard ugly.

I'm going to wait around until sony releases their HI-MD players and read some reviews. The prospect of 1gb disks for $7 that can hold any file format is interesting to me.

the Apple Computer Company sells the best MP3 players available. the iPod, large size, the original unit that can hold 15, 20, or 40 models start at memory can be had for a base of $299 for the 15 GB model, and tops out at $499 for the huge 40 GB model. I own a $399 20 GB model and it holds every song I own, plus has plenty of space for more. Battery replacement costs $50 and should not need to be serviced for long periods of time. Very solid, reliable, good-looking and powerful.

Apple also sells the iPod Mini which starts at $249 and comes in five different colors, blue and silver are my favorites. The batteries last up to 8 hours and the battery replacement service is the same as the Apple policy for the bigger, more powerful iPods. Cool shit. You should check 'em out. I own one, and it has been awesome. Totally worth the investment.

I have the Nomad Zen NX with 20GB of storage for the same reason. I don't know much about MP3 players, but its nice.

Pick up a used old style 5Gb iPod on eBay. You can pick one up for less than $150 in decent condition.

i have a Nomad Zen 20gb and i think it's fucking superb, never skips/jumps, great battery life, light and pocket sized. And you can copy a whole cd of MP3's to it in about 15 seconds.
