Get Ready for 'The Simpsons' Movie
Look for a feature-length 'toon featuring Homer's clan in 2006

Gary Susman, Entertainment Weekly

Potential plots for a 'Simpsons' movie are being kept secret.

After 15 years, Homer Simpson is finally ready for his close-up. Variety reports that a feature-length animated movie version of ''The Simpsons'' is in the works. Series creators Matt Groening and James L. Brooks, along with five other past and present writers from the series, are preparing a script for the movie, which would likely hit the big screen in 2006.

''Simpsons'' scribe Mike Reiss spilled the beans about the secretive project earlier this week to DVDFanatic.com. ''They've wanted to do this since season two. It's been 13 years of wanting to do 'The Simpsons' movie,'' Reiss told the website. ''Finally Fox said, 'Let's just do it!' We never had the greatest idea that was compelling but Fox said, 'Maybe if we start paying you, you'll get inspired.' And sure enough, it worked!''

Reiss didn't want to say too much about the premise, telling the website he hasn't even divulged it to his wife. ''We've got a very good and interesting idea, and it's different from the show,'' he said. ''You know, it's like the 'South Park' movie where it's just a bigger, longer, amplified version of the show.'' So does that mean Bart will meet Cartman? Cowabunga!

Matt Groening has said in the past that a Simpons movie would only be made when the series is over, I hope he changed his mind. :(

The Simpsons died three seasons ago.

My expectations for a Simpsons movie? Lowest of the low.

The writers can barely fit watchable material into a half-hour, I don't really want to see what 90 minutes of it will look like.

The series first went to shit when Conan O'brien left, then when they put their best writers on Futurama but now that Futurama is dead the Simpsons has really been picking back up.

Totally;

Once futurama hit the road, the Simpsons have begun to shine. Not like they're ever going to catch up to their previous glory---ever. But there's still a really fucking hilarious aspect to their humor no other series has ever or will ever emulate.

Can't be as bad as the Beavis & Butthead Do America movie. The best part of that flick was them dazzled by the automatic flushing toilets when "Old Faithful" was the main attraction. I think a Simpsons film would be cool if handled right... maybe have Bart and Lisa finally get into Junior Highschool at the end of the movie or something.
