I'm still using a good but old 27" RCA as my main set for both games and movies and am going to upgrade soon.

Aside from LCD, plasma or DLP which are way out of my price range, I'm going for a flat tube or a widescreen projection TV.

I realize tubes still offer better picture quality than RP TV sets, especially those with HDTV but the current crop of HDTV RP TV sets (I'm thinking 47"-51") look very good for movies and games running in HDTV.

I want the RP TV but my main concern is burn-in, especially on the widescreen models that need adjusting to watch 4:3 aspect ratio shows and games.

I'd appreciate any here with experience on large tubes or especially widescreen RP TV sets to enlighten me before I make the wrong decision.

Of all the people I've spoken to, no one will be able to give me the answers I need than those here, my fellow hardcore gamers and movie lovers.

Ive always stuck with tube tvs. Dont have to worry about burn in, and the picture quality is excellent no matter what angle you view it.

I just got a Sony Wega kv-36hs510. It retails for $1800. Is HD ready and all that. Its $200 cheaper than Sony's 34" widescreen, and $700 cheaper than the Sony 34XBR910. The XBR910 is AMAZING, but at $2500 is was well out of my price range. It has 1400 lines of resolution, compared to the 1000 of Sony's HS510 line.

If you really want a widescreen HDTV, then get one. But if your going to divide your time between games, tv, and DVDs equally like I do, then I recomend the kv-36HS510. It has verticle compression so you dont loose any resolution in widescreen mode. Its widescreen mode is 33", only 1" smaller than the more expensive kv-34hs510. And the 4:3 mode is 8" larger with no distortion. Dont pay $1800 for it though, catch it on a sale or something.

I own three televisions, one is a Sony Wega 38 inch monitor, tube tv, the big CRT that takes up a generous amount of space. My other two are a Phillips plasma screen that is 34 inches, completely flat, hung up on the wall, tied into a Harmon Kardon surround sound system, and my Sony Wega CRT is hooked into a Harmon-Kardon system as well.

I also have a Sony LCD flat-screen that is 20 or 22 inches or something, it was a gift from my girlfriends' parents to us at Christmas. The Sony LCD is hooked into a Bose surround sound home theater system, but I feel my good ole CRT gets the job done just fine with the surround sound provided by Harmon-Kardon I can't complain. The Plasma is by far the worst of our three tv's... it is a great tv, but bad for watching video games, and leave it on too long and watch an image burn its way through the screen. Good times...

My Apple Cinema HD Display is a 23 inch flat-screen LCD... kickass, better than my Sony flat-screen by far. And its just a computer monitor.

Erin Mills Town Center?

I doubt I'll be there this weekend but when do you start at Sears?

BTW, I wasn't aware that the Bay or Sears allowed "haggling" of prices, I thought just Future Shop or Best Buy did.

Regardless, let me know.

Anyone else with a widescreen rear projection set that could enlighten me on their experience?
