Check the power supply... make sure you are getting +5 and 12 off of the line to the JAMMA edge.

I'd say you probably killed it with extreme voltage when you misconnected it.

most of the time when color coded wires are coming out of the same power supply, it generally means they are the same.

Check the chart usually on the side of the PSU. In an ATX powere supply there are a lot of the same voltage wires so You'll be left with a lot of extras to make sure they don't go stray.

On the gun I'm working on I'm going to use all those extra wires to pimp my rig out similar to those PCs with lights in them.

Also did the unit ever work? How long did it work? You might have given it the wrong voltage and it might have slowly burnt it out. I've seen stranger stuff happen.

Me too, man, me too.

That would suck some major donkey dick. THose boards are expensive and hard to replace. I feel your pain and hope you find its something other than that.

What kind of power supply did you use?

hmmm, outside my area of expertise, I'm working with ATX PC powersupplys.

Can you post some pictures? Are there any blackened areas on the board?

Look very carefully on the top and bottom.

i think that if the machine gets power, at least something has to turn on... like the monitor or something :spock:
and if the power suply is broken, is it easy to put a pc power supply in? ive got a few lying around here
(srry for meh shitty english ;) )

yeah it actually is, there is a wireing diagram on the sides of most PC power supplys.

something that says

White = -5
Orange = +5
Red = +12

and so on

just use that to map it out the proper way, throw on some molex connectors and voila, a powersupply. You don't even need to add line filters cause PC power supplys have them built in. And to a point it has some surger protection as well.

could dirty jamma connector pins be the reason?

Sandpaper a smallll layer of the pins. That usually works for me. I never have to clean carts or edge connectors ever AGAIN!

I know that feeling too :crying:

The power supply shorted out in my 4-slot awhile back and not only did it take out the board, it took out Metal Slug X, Bust-a-Move Again and Super Sidekicks 3 with it (somehow, Magical Drop 3 survived). Had to spend $200 to replace the board (upgraded it to a six-slot) and spent another $200 to replace the games and buy a couple of new ones...

is it safe to open up a power suply to see if anything is broken?

If its been unplugged for a few hours previously.

Capacitors have been known to keep a substantial charge for lengthy periods of time.

So i wouldn't be poking around in there without any knowlege of what you are looking at. if you just want to open it and see if anything is burnt (without touching) go for it, but please unplug it for a few hours first.
