with 10 years of goodness this series has had to offer i thought it would be appropriate to review the phases/styles of ingame art this game has had.

KOF1994: well the colouring in of the potraits was dotty and when you'd look far it would look well blended together. much like the comics/drawings of people in the 70's. to me that just didn't work out right.

KOF1995: kinda like following a timeline moving into an elvis presley look-alike phase for the guys in the series. rather than the dotty syle. to me thats okay but not my taste.

KOF1996: it was weird to me. just a scaled up version of the sprite in the winqoute. as i said before it's just not my cup of coffee... coz i don't even like coffee.

KOF1997: it seems to have turned back to the elvis look-alike style of art in the winqoute. the pics on the life bar made many people look like dolls. okay to me.

KOF1998: now the weakness of the system starting to show up so to compensate they now tended to go to an anime style of art. the main winner in the winqoute was allright but the other 2 in the background were screwed. the pics near the lifebar still looked like dolls(damn) but that wasn't that bad as KOF1997. they should have made it like KOF2002 (all 3 close together in the shot). pretty good and a definite improvement.

KOF1999: MY FAVOURITE. anime style art and now clearly more blended than 1998. though sometimes theyed make some people look weird like terry being to skinny and kim being a DJ but yeah this game did have the best artwork in the series.

KOF2000: the character select screen art and lifebar art was GREAT as well as the endings but what were they thinking on the winqoutes. benimaru doning a shinku kategoma, terry doing his power dunk, k finishing of his QCB kick move. thats what fucked the game up image wise.

KOF2001: the start of the "cute wannabe" phase of ingame artwork more clearly defined in KOF2002/2003. some pics just had weird lips though the winqoute art seems to have been inspired by KOF2000 in a sence of capturing them while they were in the middle of something. Benimaru dancing/waving his arms, clark about to clonk you on the head. it would have been the best artwork if it was animated and not just still images on the winqoutes and endings.

KOF2002: as explained before a more clearly defined "cute wannabe" style of artwork. some people just wanted to look like babies such as mai. it was a definite improvement on KOF2001.
***mai's winqoute pic looks like you can see a bit of bush. nah it's not. just for all you loser horny bastards out there.***

KOF2003: keeping the "cute wannabe" style of ingame art along with adding a splash of "i wanna root up the ass" style. it's allright but if you look at the order select pics and winqoute pics of benimaru and billy you know what i mean about the "i wanna root up the ass style". they worked pretty good on the endings but they have to be FUCKING ANIMATED and not just shaking slides (didn't they learn from KOF2002). Sometimes better and sometimes suckier than KOF2002's style depending on my mood.

so there you have it. a quick review on all the styles of ingame art this game has gone through. it's okay at the moment but shoving in the KOF1999 styled art snd then adding in animations in the winqoutes and endings would be a trillion times better rather than moving slides which look so dodgy.

thats to get your memory back. so whch style/phase is your favourite and which one/ones would you want back.

The only artwork that I didn't like of the series would be that of 97. Horrible art. Everything else has ranged from acceptable (KoF 95) to amazing. (KoF 2000/99)

95 in terms of win screens is probably the best game.
I've never been a big fan of when KOF became
colored with stylized anime art.
as in 2001.
99 being the exception I think. I happen to be rather fond of that actually.

The best portraits were the ones in KOF99, and 2003 has good portraits as well, but still too "childish" compared with 99's style.

The FRIGGIN cute Look of Characters in 2k3 Drives me up the wall- fine for them characters that are supposed to refect that side of cuteness, but for Grizzled veterans?? eg: Ralf,Clark Terry?? Damn.

Anywho, KOF in game artwork in 1997 REALLY STINKS..How can you go from Glitter and posh in KOF96art one extremity, to the next -KOF97- (that layout artist must have gotten fired)....ABSOLUTE GARBAGE...... as my quote below says it all-

i personally like the kof2k3 art, especially the intro....
but my fave would be 99, it was so well done and so clean looking

what i hated the most is the 2k1 (mvs/aes), they seem to be all too much cartoony
