I have got to try Japanese beer...

I hear nothing but raves from my friends but I'm so stuck on the goddamned dutch beers and pilsners that I don't have enough money left over for some nihon-intoxicat...

Kirin Lager is great, I highly recommend it, but the stuff I'm drinking right now is the cheap stuff.

Japanese breweries found a way to avoid the high alcohol consumption tax... they brewed a type of beer which has a substantially lower malt content, so it technically doesn't classify as beer, and so there's no tax.

Unfortunately it doesn't taste like beer either.

It's called 'happoshu', and right now all the major breweries have their own brand. The Kirin stuff is called 'Goku Nama'.

gmw, if he reads this, can attest to the crappiness of this low-malt beverage.

The usual cheap($7 12pack cans), yet godly Natural Ice.
Budweiser
Also managed to snag some Corona out of a garage, I must say it's a lot better than I've heard. Loved it to the last drop, yes I did.:drool_2: :drool_2:

I'm with tsuka on this - happoshu is nasty, nasty, shit. It's like the inverse of malt liquor - tastes crappy, and it's cheap, but unfortunately, getting fucked up off of it would take gallons. I used to sometimes drink Asahi's happoshu called "honnama" - terrible shit. I'm surprised that the ever-looming happoshu tax hasn't gone through yet.

My brews of the week, as far as I can remember, have been:

Yuengling Lager
Mickey's Fine Malt Liquor
Pabst Blue Ribbon
Paulaner Hefeweizen
Asahi Super-Dry (which I hate)
Tsing Tao (which I hate)
