Poll: best KOF ever

boys have at it. the KOF series has always intrigued and impressed me. i have been using Neo long enough now to know KOF '98 is supposedly the pinnacle of the series.

Sorry but KOF 2001 and KOF '99 are much better in every way they possibly can.

My vote goes to KOF '99.

While many will say WTF? with my choice I'll stand by the fact that KOF 2002 floats my boat, albeit some minor issues with some rather lackluster backgrounds. Up until recently I would have said KOF '98, and for overall control and presentation I guess that would still be king of the hill no doubt about it... but I didn't much care for the roster as much as I did with 2K2. I have yet to play 2K3 so I cannot vote on that.

Every year ray is all over the new KOF.

It's the best! My personal favorite ever!

I wonder if they stopped doing KOF, if ray would just stick with the last KOF made, or would he be forced to choose a best from all of them. If it's the latter, I'd love to see his head spin trying to pick.

im going to say 99 just for the reason that kof 99 was the first neo geo game i ever played and it made me fall in love with the system
allthough i know that some of the others are better mainly 98,97,and 96 i still hold a fondness for 99

Right now, I've been awoken to the dark side... loving KoF 2000. Right now I'm tied with 2k and '97 at the top, followed by '98, then '96.

Voted 2k though, because it gets no love.

95... i was so "wow" when i bought it

i mean i read the reviews and all so i knew it was pretty, but not to THAT point (bgs are so great)

it s a simple KOF (gameplay wise), but i like when things are simple, i am not technical

The first one I played, on saturn (pal 50Hz, sic! ). I spent so many time on it, now i find it perfect.

Second is kof2k1, with the best striker system, lot of new characters.

(yes, my two favorites are the ones with the worst artworks and musics

)

And third one would be 99.
But it's really hard to make a podium, as they all are really good.

I can't get enough of KOF '96; for me it was the best KOF game ever created and it still is today!! It was just incredable with a great selection of fighters (including Kasumi) and you had to fight every single fighter including Geese Howard and randomly to get to the last bosses, Chizuru and Goenitz!! This game is definitely my favorite!!

'98, the pinnacle of competitive KoF games, only getting better with age. If you're gonna rip it for the grapplers or some supposed flaw, any argument you can make will apply to an even greater degree to damn near any other KoF title.

For some reason, people always feel inclined to rail against common wisdom and diss '98. As Blade would say, some muthafuckas is always trying to ice-skate uphill. :cool:

I know it maybe cliche, but KOF 98 for me. I haven't played 2002 enough to form a true opinion. I played it ONCE in the arcade, it was decent, definitely better than 2000/2001.

I voted 98, but I really wanted to vote 2k2. 98 is just the perfect KOF, and easily top three fighting game ever made, IMHO. A great game from a line of great games.

Dude Im all for Dreammatches,and
I love this series to the core, the original purpose of putting fighters/characters from other SNK games for a head to head brawl-

King of Fighters 1998......hands down best close to perfection -then 2k2 almost matches it.

hopefully the next dreammatch would be along the same lines of these two, hopefully we could see some Eiji Ninja action this time with a comeback. :spock:

My favorite is 1997. I loved the short cut commands in that one... it made it really easy to control your character. It's the first KOF that I really got into and made me REALLY like SNK's games.
